I didn't want to restore this 1997 Islander this summer

That’s going to put the actuator close to the support for the swim step too. Probably only 1/2-3/4 inch clearance.

That’s an 18x9 “trim tab”, the tape in the middle is the anode location, but I can easily relocate it, and then my transducer. The plywood scrap it’s clipped to is 10” long. Everything I read says keep it 8” or more off set from the drive. I can also relocate or just space the trailer tab out...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Are you happy with the 12x12 tab size? I have a 97 221v and am considering the 18x9 or 12x9. My floors are out right now so backing it up is no issue, nor is relocating the hull anode. I just put brand new through hull fittings for the live well, I don’t want to mess with those. I’m very happy...

I didn't want to restore this 1997 Islander this summer

Could happen to anyone! I was a passenger in an Eliminator Daytona with about 1,200hp once. It had a brand new 572 with AFR heads and twin whipper super chargers; at about 110 mph it siphons beer right out of the can of you hold it level.

Just having it in the squeeze bottle, I can get what I need quick and easy. I don’t have to cover the top with a rag and invert it, I can squirt it onto a rag or surface and get to wiping before it evaporates. Not a full on game changer, but a worth while convenience. I’m pretty sure I’ll get a...

Also, picked this up after using my friend’s in his shop. Super convenient.

If I had it to do again, I think I would’ve tried to make a good buck and form a new transom. I am pretty confident in this repair, but it probably was only marginally easier and isn’t the same as a whole new transom. I’ll keep that, and an outboard conversion, in mind for the next one.

I didn't want to restore this 1997 Islander this summer

Putting the rub rail channel back on I decided I should be able to buck my own rivets. The original holes weren’t laid out consistently and it was really difficult. I started with too long of rivets and just folded them down, so I cut a bunch back out and went down a size. It went better. They...

Laminated, sprayed with 3M cavity wax, and new wood installed with new hardware and through TH Marine through hull fittings (I did reuse the eyes). I put stainless tabs on bolts at the edges for zip tying transducer cables and probably cables for trim tabs, hence both port and starboard. I wiped...

Second coat, better than first. Planning for third after assembly.

I can get my 850 you pump out with the engine in, the 2200 will have to mount clear of the engine. I haven’t settled yet on exactly where. The low boy fits under the cuddy floor, it’s very low, and I got a round screw type access hatch to cut in, I can pull the pump through the frame of the...

82 Starcraft MR 180 floor, slight refit and leaks

I think that’s what was on a bunch of my rivets. I used a scraper, like a screw driver with a wide blade at the tip and a metal cap on the handle, like a cold chisel. Some came clean with a few moderate taps at the edges, some shaved into a smaller dome that was hard to chip. I ground them down...

Still can’t post pics but the second coat came out much much better. Very lite roller stipple. Pretty sure I have get some thinner and shoot it if I want it better. It does tighten up a lot when it dries.

I didn't want to restore this 1997 Islander this summer

Still can’t get pics to post so you’ll just have to trust me. As the day went on the paint tightened up quite a bit and some parts looked presentable. There were too many and too heavy lap marks and orange peel generally though so I gave it 24ish hours and started sanding. I didn’t sand to...

I didn't want to restore this 1997 Islander this summer

Alumahawk says on the can, “roll, brush, or spray” but in all the online literature they really discourage spraying. I don’t have and can’t readily get MEK to thin it and I watched 100 people “roll and tip” boats online with results I’d find satisfactory for this project. This still drying so it...

1983 Starcraft Rivet Work of Art

A good pour of gluvit on the inside would probably seal it up for a long time. Personally I’d drill out all the rivets, and because I’m like this I’d make it symmetric about the keel, and make an elongated half oval patch panel from .080” 5052 aluminum and a second strip for the inside the seam...
