8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

That would be nice if it was simple lol, but those are the ones that kill ya lol. I tried spraying brake clean right into carb and it still won't run. Should have fired right up given it has spark. So popping head off is my next step I take it?

8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

Carb was off so I could inspect the reed plates. Didn't help when I put it back together. I'll check the flywheel key. Does that compression seem really low? From what I am seeing, it should be about 120.

8HP 2 stroke no start - Low compression

I have a 2004 8HP Yamaha 2 stroke. Started last week, and was idling for about 5 minutes, then died. Good water flow. Haven't been able to start it since. New plugs, new fuel filter, carb was rebuilt beginning of the year. Checked reed plate and all looks well. Has spark and fuel. Drained the...

    Oil Change Vacuum Merc Adapters

Awesome, thanks. I wasn't sure if it needed to be sealed for whatever reason. I always thought the the vac systems you just popped the hose to the bottom of the pan and off you go. I was honestly a bit surprised there was so much to the merc with all the adapters.

Can someone tell me what these wires are for?

That's for setting the timing. You need to install a jumper I believe to put it into timing mode if you are hitting it with a light and setting your timing. Forgot the actual procedure, but if you look up timing procedure, it was pretty easy.

    Oil Change Vacuum Merc Adapters

I bought the West Marine 6.9QT manual oil change pump last year. It came with all sorts of adapters....I know there was one specifically for Mercruise and it threaded on to the dipstick tube. I remember as I was cleaning up, one of the pieces went flying and landed in a bush. To this day I still...

Looking to buy a new Jetski

Thanks again Gents! Yeah, the more I read, the more I think I am going to replace the broken one. From what I have found so far, the only reason I have come across is to remove for performance purposes. I'm not looking to race or impress anyone here. Just tool around and have some fun. Doesn't...

Looking to buy a new Jetski

So I'm going with the GTX. Just got back from looking at it. In great shape, well taken care of. Was always covered (and comes with custom cover) so exterior looks new. Engine sounds good. Oil looked clean (and it was from last year still) Only issue, which seller brought to my attention before...

Looking to buy a new Jetski

I get ya, but I don't really have the funds to spend on a newer ski. This is a work bonus present to myself. I'm not looking for anything crazy, just something else to play with when hanging at the marina. Definitely a dice roll I know, especially older, but hoping I can get a nice deal, and I...

Looking to buy a new Jetski

Already own a boat. Ski is a supplemental toy to have at the Marina when I don't want to take the boat out and just quickly blast out and have a little fun.

Looking to buy a new Jetski

Thanks very much for the input gents!! I am no stranger to repairs being a boat owner lol. I luck out that I was an auto tech for about 15 years, so I can generally do my own repairs. Definitely expect some on something older like this, just wanted to make sure there weren't any glaring "holy...

Looking to buy a new Jetski

Hey folks! Looking to buy my first Jetski and wondering if I could get some input. The two that I am currently looking at are a 2004 SeaDoo GTI which is a 2 stroke and a 2002 SeaDoo GTX 155 which is a 4 stroke. So far, I have only seen the 2004 in person, but just visual and did not hear it...

Trying to find ignition wires for 2004 8HP Yamaha 2 Stroke

Sure looks like they pop right off. I didn't actually try and assumed you can just remove the wires like every other plug wire. Will have to check now. Thanks!

Trying to find ignition wires for 2004 8HP Yamaha 2 Stroke

Found I had a bad wire today when I was trying to figure out why I had a skip. Touched the back of the case so I could take cover off and see what was going on and it zapped the crap out of me. Upon taking off the cover and then starting again, saw that one of the wires is arcing out to the...

    Issue with 6HP Johnson Seahorse

Honestly, I was just going to rebuild it, like you said very basic. But I have been monkeying with this for a bit now, and though I am pretty mechanically inclined, didn't want to mess something up with it, and it really wasn't that expensive vs the rebuild kit. Just 2 screws and a couple of...

    Issue with 6HP Johnson Seahorse

Ok...had some time to work with it this weekend. One plug off at a time causes it to run rough like it's on one cylinder. Both on, idles like a champ. Replaced the fuel pump. Still same issue. Runs great at idle and low speeds, as soon as I whack the throttle, it just bogs out. Even tried...

    Issue with 6HP Johnson Seahorse

Will do. Thanks!! Yes primer ball is hard, it did sit for a few years, but I believe it was gone through before I bought it late last year. I know impeller was replaced and I thought he said carb cleaned or rebuilt, but I will double check that.

    Issue with 6HP Johnson Seahorse

Ok, so I think I found the model and year....what I thought was a G is actually 6. So it appears this is an 85.
