    Modern PT lumber

The pilings that Venice is built on were whatever was available in Europe at the time. They were a mix of soft and hard wood. They were driven a foot apart or less, and were of different diameters and lengths. The key was to drive them to the water level, and top them with waterproof...

    Modern PT lumber

Cedar is very rot resistant, and superior to pine in several ways. If PT pine was not a lot cheaper that cedar, it would not be used, IMO. As for Chestnut, I do not know how long it resists rot, if it is used for a deck, but if used for the walls of a roofed barn, I am pretty sure it will last...

    Modern PT lumber

Your barn has a roof, right? That keeps most of the water off the chestnut logs, helping them to last, although hardwood is more rot resistant. My neighbor built his deck with Mahagony. It looked like crap, but didn't rot, at least not yet.

    Add tilt/trim to 1978 Mercury 500 Thunderbolt 50HP 4967035

Gee, I do not know what an "Outboard bracket with tilt and trim", is. I think he would need a midsection compatible with the powerhead mounting bolts, with a transom bracket with an integrated PTT unit. I have heard that those exist, I do not know which models and years would bolt to his...

    Add tilt/trim to 1978 Mercury 500 Thunderbolt 50HP 4967035

The crowleymarine web site should have the part numbers for the PTT system. I expect you will need two PTT brackets that hold the top of the cylinder, a pump/reservoir that mounts in the boat and 4 hydraulic hoses to power the PTT cylinders. The electronics are pretty easy to wire up from...

Put a straight edge on each side of the hull and look for hook, rocker and other deformities.

    Modern PT lumber

There are several types of pressure treated lumber. The cheapest is rated for above ground use. It has the lowest PT retention level. Lumber rated for ground contact is more rot resistant, and only a bit more $. Lumber rated for freshwater docks has more retention, say 10X than ground...

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

Gee, I thought my sterndrive ran well, also. I went fishing in the ocean and it blew so hard that saltwater from the bilge splashed up under the plastic cover, past the spark arrestor and stalled the engine. It started up and ran fine, but it spooked me, so I babied it all the way back into...

    Mercury 2-Stroke Oils

I would recommend that you don't use any non-Merc TCW-III oil. They may be OK, but why mess around. You might check to see if the OMC DI oil is compatible with Optimax. I would expect it will. If it were me, I would ask the dealer that sold you the oil with the clumps.

    Prop problem

Not to discredit Utube, but aluminum props do not loose anywhere near 25% of their pitch. That would turn a 21P aluminum prop into a 16P prop. I have always heard that aluminum props flex a bit under load but have never witnessed it.

I have a question about the marine navigation system

Check the connections for power and antenna to the nav system. Look for corrosion, causing resistance.

    Prop problem

OK, you might check your prop shaft for straightness. When SS props hit rocks, the prop shaft can be bent. Aluminum props usually break and protect the prop shaft.

    Prop problem

Gee, How about buying a new prop with the same pitch and style. An aluminum version will be about the cost of the rehub, and you will not need to drive.

Do waverunners have low oil pressure shutoff system?

That is obviously a good idea. However, the guy driving was the owners grandaughter's boyfriend. He was not read in to that idea.

Merc 350 bolt v 2 barrel carb fluctuating RPMS

Gee, if you are going to tie a boat the dock, and go WOT, you had better be right about the boat being secure, or a serious accident will happen. Wouldn't it be better to get a helper and take the boat out on the water, where you can run WOT, and have the helper drive the boat?
