    2000 Johnson 115 Low compression 1 cylinder

Not difficult to pull the cylinder head to inspect the suspect cylinder. You may just have a bad cylinder head gasket.

1997 Evinrude SPL90 2 Stroke V4 dripping oil/gas down front of shaft from case

My 97 90 SPL has aluminum bowls. Sounds like a good wash out would be in order and the usual compressions and sparks tests.

1993 Mercury 40 hp higher rpm issues while on the water

Knowing what motor we are dealing with would certainly help.

    Cant accelerate past 2800 rpm

Most commonly issues like this are as a result of a cylinder not working. At idle try pulling the plug wires off one at a time and see if there is a change in the motor revs. The one that doesn't change it is the one to investigate further. Motors with a cylinder not working will usually rev...

    Help stator mercury 500

For 50hp motors 8030090-8063984. Mercury part #832075A20 shows 5 wire. CDI part# 134-5454K1. I suggest this one, less expensive and better product. made in USA.

    Pulling out my hair!

Resistance checks can fool you. You will need to check the voltage outputs from the Stator and the trigger. Disconnect the Stator wires that go to the rectifier and see if that makes any difference. If not then do the Voltage checks. You will need a test meter and a digital to analog convertor...

    1993 J50TLETF won't stay running

These motors are very reliable but like all they need regular servicing, especially the fuel side. However they do wear out. Starting from the beginning we need to do a compression test and a spark test. With those done and satisfactory we can take the next step. These motors will run on one...

    1987 Johnson 90 VRO Outboard J90TLCUR

This looks like a motor that is used in salt water. When you refit the lower unit be sure to coat the full length of the bolts with OMC thread sealant or Mercury Perfect seal before you refit them. Hope the bolts come out without too much difficulty.

    Johnson 150 Rebuild/Remanufacture Guidance

I have been using OMC or Mercury equivalent Perfect seal on all bolts that do not require thread locker. It works very well. Same stuff on gaskets that require water sealing including the block to adapter gasket. and the lower edge of the cylinder head gaskets. These areas have a habit of...

    2007 9.9 Tohatsu/Mercury. No sparks.

I greatly appreciate everyone's help on this problem. I used the specs provided but nothing seemed to tally. I pressed the issue of trying to find a manual for the 9.9 Merc and finally found one through a friend who is a Merc dealer. The manual is an official merc product, but in my opinion a...

    Ok I surrender. 2007 9.9 merc 4St

Ok, I am closing this inquiry. I have finally found and acquired the "official Mercury manual". In my opinion it is very poor in detail and adequacy. Resistance tests are provided but voltage tests are not.

    Ok I surrender. 2007 9.9 merc 4St

Thanks for the thought but I doubt CDI would offer anything. They dont make equivalent components.

    Ok I surrender. 2007 9.9 merc 4St

I only need the resistances and volt outputs for the trigger, stator and power pack. If I can't have that can anyone tell me where I can find a reasonably priced shop manual. Thanks.

    Johnson 150 Rebuild/Remanufacture Guidance

Sorry terrapin. Looks like I have got out of step. Incidentally I have found penetrating oil a total wast of time. I use sealant on all the bolts during reassembly with exception of those requiring thread locker. Pleased to hear that you are having a go.

    Johnson 150 Rebuild/Remanufacture Guidance

The most luck I have had with this problem is with the use of oxy/accet. The aluminum dissipates heat so quickly that map gas even with oxy is not hot enough. A lot of patience with the heat is necessary and don't forget aluminum will melt if it gets too hot. Application of a light impact gun...

    Johnson 150 Rebuild/Remanufacture Guidance

I have been rebuilding a variety of motors, including the J/E 6s for the past 15 years, not as a job as I have been retired for that long. The hands are starting to hurt now but I still manage. Just finishing a 1986 V4 john right now. My shop is basic but well equipped. No, I'm not suggesting...

    Trim tilt pump

The number on the plate identifies the model. Are there any other parts of the T/T assembly attached to the motor to show that it had a T/T. Not all motors had one. If it had a T/T the pump and solenoid assy would have been attached to the boat deck at the stern.

    Trim tilt pump

Your information about the year is too vague. We need year and serial number. Can we assume at least that it is a 4 Cylinder. That in itself is also insufficient.

    1986 110 Johnson.

Ok guys. No reply to my question. Dont worry about it I have solved the problem. I have found a second OMC "official" manual in my library, this one is a plastic spring type binder as opposed to the other which is a standard stiff paper back. Both show the same re circulation schematic but the...

1999 Johnson 25 carb help req.

Congratulations on a fine job. Good information and pics. Two days ago I had to repair the outer tubes on two carbs from a 40Hp John. They had split along the line of the 4 holes, both sides. As you are aware the small center tube is angled and is in contact with the inside of the larger tube...
