    I just had a similar problem on my 1995 Johnson 175........was smoking like crazy. I found a tear in 1 of the diaphragms. I just rebuilt the VRO pump w/ very good results. Used this Kit, not sure if its the same for you engine......

    So will the rebuild kit (OEM) address this o-ring you mentioned? If the gas diaphragm is damaged would it cause high oil usage? Do you agree the rate of oil usage is very high? Where are check valves? Do I need to disassemble the 2 halves of the pump?

    Can't get to the oil filter in the tank to easily, last time I checked the output test I did it by checking usage w/ the clear plastic tube, really to make sure oil was being drawn in........and to check the no oil alarm while running off pre-mix

    Getting ready to do this repair. The leak on the Tilt Cylinder is worsening........engine will not tilt up all the way anymore, is this an indication that water is in the system now? I have been adding fluid as best I can.
