    Bravos vs Alphas

I am interested in purchasing a boat that has twin Bravo drives. The boat has been retrofitted from Alphas. I am somewhat familiar with Bravos but not an expert. Are they superior to alpha drives? What is the drawback?

    Mercruisers in fresh water?

We learned years ago that MC outdrives don't last long if stored in salt water, regardless of any bottom paint used. Anti-fouling paints work to a point, but if you keep your boat stored wet in salt water, you are going to experience MORE problems than storing it dry. But, what about storing...

    Going Back with foam???? WHY?????????

I am, reluctantly, rebuilding and replacing ROT under, around and behind a 1994 Pro Line 2950 cuddy cabin's fuel tanks and fish box area. A rotted nightmare to say the least... Under each of the approx. 120 gal tanks, the builders had poured in foam for strength, which over a period of years had...

    Eat Polyurathane Foam...please!!!!

I have saddle gas tanks sealed in poly foam. They need inspection and modification. I have been able to free the underside, but the back side is almost impossible to assess with tools to grind out the poly foam. Is there anything that will dissolve this foam and not fiberglass????

MC Alpha 1 Gen II OD leaking lube

I have an older OD that over the winter I noticed lube residue seeping from the vents where I normally install muffs to rinse motor. I suspect seal has gone bad but do not know which one and is there a tool available for seal removal and replacement????

    Ever used this stuff?

This outfit is very reasonably priced with their products but I am not familiar with web site or epoxy brand. A friend has used them and swears by their products. I am going to be laying up a lot of wood, rebuilding stringers, etc. Web site is Boat Builder Central and epoxy I am considering is...

Installing older 350 into Alph I Gen II

1994 350 Chevy blocks are getting hard to find fort spares. My boat has two of them with each having low hrs. The fuel pump housing are molded over; Hence, motors require electric fuel pumps. In addition I had to machine older intake manifolds to be able to bolt onto the newer heads. I have...

Proline 2950 Cuddy gas tank removal circa 1994

I am finally getting around to performing this on my alpha 1 Gen II 350 chevy(s). Although, I suspect it will be a nightmare. 2 tanks run 8" along under neath gunnels and are slightly resessed so cutting out deck and pulling out from top may not be the most efficient method of removal. I have...

    Wasp and Hornet repellent?

We are plagued with hornets and wasps making nests inside air vents, rod holders and thru-hulls in the south. Is there a repellent to keep inside an engine compartment to keep this little SOBs out? I'd heard that moth balls worked but that may be BS. In addition, I have been using duct tape to...

Temp issues on Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2

I have a 1995 Proline with twin raw water cooled 5.7 V8s. The risers and exhaust manifolds are clean with no obstructions. Yet, I have been experiencing odd temperature reading one my stb engine gauge, and before I started pulling sensors and gauges, I wanted to measure with another device. I...

MC Alpha 1 Gen II lube questions

Now that the federal government controls our fishing season and made it dismal and short at best here in Fl, I scarcely put 50 hrs on my V8 duals since 2012. Yet, I have noticed that the gear lube is extremely dark blue with higher viscosty in the lower units vs upper resoviors. End of last...

Hummingbird 998c SI Perform as Stated?

I fish in the Gulf Of Mexico and is is very salty. I have been examining performance claims on this unit and was wondering if it will do as ads state. I fish in 50-250' of water and do a lot of trolling, where I am also looking for debris and fish. Typically running about 3-8 mph... Most of the...

    Hummingbird 998 hd si

Hummingbird boasts of 8000 watts of sonar seems a bit too much? I have twin MC 350s with std altinators that I do not believe can safely produce enough power for this unit. I typically fish in 50-120' of salt Gulf of Mexico water. Any feed back on this would be appreciated.

Proline 2950 Cuddy gas tank removal

Has anyone ever removed gas tanks from 2950? These are shoehorned along with motors into this boat. They are 20 years old and sealed into foam. I fear that they need a full inspection, besides I cannot easily access outside of either motor for maintence. I can cut top of deck and pull them up or...

Retroing MC alpha 1 gen II to Barvo ODs?

I have a very heavy 2950 Proline with twin 350 Chevy v8s and Alpha I Gen II drives. Proline engineered the boat where it is almost impossible to work on the out part of each engine. I plan on repositioning fule tanks to get some weight forward. However, I noticed a Bravo drive the other day that...

Retrofiting Raw water cooled to closed cooling

Is there anything after market that I can buy to retro my 5.7 s with closed cooling so that future "consumables" to replace or inspect would only be risers/elbows? The exhaust manifolds would pass antifreeze as well as engine block and heat exchangers. The only retro-fit I have been able to find...

    Trim Master Actuator Repair

Anyone know how to disassemble these and replace o-rings. They appear sealed or plastic is glued. I guess this is why they went out of business?

    Curtain snap removal nightmare

I am now trying to install clear vinyl curtains around my half tower. The previous owners used traditional male snaps that are sheet metal screwed into a 1.5" anodized aluminum frame. Unfortunately, they may have been incorrectly sold bias steel screws and not stainless steel screws. In...

    Best audio alarm

Being hearing impaired, I have to rely on my fishing buddies to assist in listening to "bumps in the middle of the night." However, with 2 v8s running, even the crew has problems. I recently installed a second 2000 gal rule bilge pump to assist a 1500 gal rule pump. Both Johnson float switches...
