Video on installing MC V8 shaker/woble crank pump?

One of my 383 stroker crank pumps (raw water) is slightly miss-aligned. It, indeed, wobbles! Does anyone know of a video on how to adjust this pump. There is a lot of hardware in the way for me to totally see all of its fasteners, but it appears to have 3 bolts fastening it to the crank pulley...

Installing Zinc(s) on Bravo 1 Hub

Manual is not real clear if I am to add "never seeze" onto SS threads that hold hub zinc onto hub. It seems to me that I am asking for future nightmares as a result of dissimilar metals if I don't coat threads with something. These are small screws and could chemically weld. Any suggestions?

Spider line cracks in Gel Coat Concerns?

I just bought a 30 year old SR Amberjack that is in remarkable shape. I had outside and interior surveyed for structural integrity, and I examined boat?s hull for noticeable issues before buying. I knew it had some keel abrasions but I figured that it would be an easy repair. It was. However...

    Mercruiser WOT?

So what is a marine WOT definition, now? I recently purchased an older SR with (2) 383 carbureted stroker motors and Bravo 1 drives. Boat is a 270 Amberjack. During sea Trial with three adults and a full fuel tank of 150+ gal of gas, owner got motors to 6300 RPMs. The MCs motors/throttle levers...

    Using Battery Switches?

I just purchased an older Sea Ray that has been retrofitted with 383 antifreeze cooled MCs with Bravo1 drives. Owner had 2 battery selectors. He cranked each motor with both switches set to "all." I was brought up decades ago to run battery selectors and motors independently. If, for whatever...

    Mercruiser Bravo I Cooling Questions

Motors appear to have pulley pumps but I cannot see any sea strainers. Former owner said water comes via ODs. I assume no strainers... Should I install one?

    Bravo 1 Heat Exchanger Issues?????

I examined boat this past week that had retro'ed Bravo 1 V8s with heat exchangers. An odd thing odd about the boat was that (when cold) the heat exchanger's body was about 1/2 full, but its fluid reservoir was 3/4 full. I have never experienced an auto radiator being "down" with fluid, while...

    Mercruiser Bravo 1 never flushed??????

I looked at a older but incredibly great LOOKING Sea Ray this week. Closed-cooled Motors ran great at dock. (no sea trial as yet) . Motors and manifolds are cooled with anti-freeze via heat exchangers. However, owner indicated that he had NEVER flushed V8s' heat exchangers and Bravo drives with...

    Sea Ray Weekender 1991-1995

I hope this is correct forum???? I am interested in examining two of these boats in s Florida. The years mentioned all appear to be the same size and weight. Dry weight is about 8 grand and centerline is 28 feet. Beam is 10' 6". These come in MC I/os or tunnel V drives. I owned a 30 foot Penn...

    Beware Tie Down G5s

These may work fine in fresh water but for me in NW Florida, they have been nightmarish. First, their brake pads didn't last 1 season. TD's "Roy" indicated that I needed additional axle brakes. Too much pressure... There was too much braking pressure on one set of brakes. He warranted brakes...

    Mercruiser Bravo I Closed Cooling?

I am not 100% familiar with Bravo I water input. Boat seller is telling me that his motors do not have through hull water pick ups to feed raw sea water into his closed cooling system's heat exchanger on 383's. Instead, he is telling me that sea water is picked up from OD and passed to external...

    Mercruiser Knock Sensors Thunderbolt 5?

I may be going to south Florida to examine an older Sea Ray that has been retro-ed with 383 stokers converted from 350 blocks. I believe that he stated that heads are traditional Wedged shaped burn chambers. I was concerned if it would burn 87 octane gas, since that is the cheapest gas. He is...

    Retrofitting Mercruiser Closed cooling V8s

I am examining all of my options. I have found a couple of closed cooling systems to retro-fit an Alpha V8 where sea water comes up through the OD and into the heat exchanger to cool down antifreeze that passes through the block. The kit does not require an external water pump/pick up. It relies...

Retrofitting from Alpha 1 to Bravo 1

First, are the transom bolt patters the same? Or, will I have to fill in holes and redrill to use Bravo drives? Can I use existing couplers from Alphas? Will controls need to be changed/retried?

Stainless steel leaf spring trailer bolts?

I am doing some maintenance on my tri-ax. aluminum railed trailer. It is rated at 13500 lbs. I replaced leaf springs and replaced shackle bolts with 1/2" 304 SS bolts and lock nuts and proper sized leaf spring spacer for 1/2 bolts. Since my trailer will be used in salt water, I chose SS bolts. A...

Checking for rot on an older Sea Ray Amberjack

I am in the market for an 80'ish Sea Ray Amberjack. The last boat I bought in order to help a friend required a lot of repairs to get it sea worthy. The transom was in bad shape. I paid way too much money, but lesson well learned. Now, common sense tells me just to drill 1/4 holes inside at...

    Mercrusier Transom assemblies and compatibilities?

Mercruiser Cast Iron block life expectancy in fresh water??

I am looking at several boats around the Great Lakes area that have Mercruiser Chevy v8s (cast iron) raw water cooled blocks with Aluminum outdrives. Here in Florida, cast iron raw water blocks last around 8-10 years, if you flush them with fresh water religiously after each use in salt water...
