I have a 17' wooden boat with a layer of fiberglass on the hull and bottom. Originally finished in 1999, I painted the bottom with Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote and everything else with Interlux Brightside Polyurethane. The topsides still look great but the bottom needs to be repainted. The...
The trim cylinder cap was removed with a pin wrench. What's next? Should the trim cylinder assembly come out or is there more disassembly required? It seems to be stuck and I do not want to force it. This is the tilt/trim unit off of a Yamaha 2006 F60TXR.
1) The unit tilts up just fine but not down. While holding the DOWN switch, it will go down easily if I push on it. If the UP-DOWN switch is not pushed then it is locked firmly in place (like it should be).
2) When it does work going down, there seems to be a "pop" as it transitions from high...
Has anyone ever attended the Maine Boatbuilders show in Portland, Maine? In 2014 the show will be on March 14-16 and I was thinking about attending. I live in Houston so it would be a significant excursion for me and the wife. Just looking for some comments from anyone who has attended in...
Engine is a 2006 Yamaha F90. Earlier this year I changed out the water pump impeller as part of routine maintenance. Last week we were leaving the marina at idle, cleared the pilings, and then brought it up on a plane. After what was less than one minute the high temperature alarm went off...
Guys, I'm looking for a recommendation on a trolling motor. Here's the particulars:
- Saltwater
- Transom Mounted
- For use on a 17' Runabout with a 2 battery setup
- Will be used a couple of times a year to fish the canals and corners of the bay
- Nothing fancy, hand control, special features...
How far below the water should a transom mounted trolling motor be positioned? Is it necessary (or preferred) to position it at a depth below the bottom surface of the hull? Thanks for your advice.
Just saw this article. I can't help but wonder who the manufacturer is of this boat:
BOSTON (AP) ? A small fishing boat lost off Massachusetts after its crew was thrown out in rough seas has been discovered near Spain more than three years later.
Scott Douglas and Rich St. Pierre were tossed...
Is there such a thing as a "standard" trolling motor plug, or do they vary by trolling motor manufacturer? I was thinking of purchasing a trolling motor - not terribly large or fancy - and would like it to be easily removeable.
Also, if the power receptacle (with proper sized wiring) was...
My outboard is a 2006 Yamaha F90 (F90TXR). Here are two symptoms:
1) I tilted the motor up last weekend to prepare it for transit and noticed a very small amount of oil on top of the tilt/trim cylinder. This would imply a rod seal leak on the top of the unit.
2) No problems while on the...
These days it's pretty common for both partners in a marriage to work. I think the last statistic I read was that about 46% of the workforce are women. I know my wife has worked since she was 18. And for that reason I make sure I hold up my end of things whether it's in the house or...
So I forgot to lower the antenna before I went under the railroad tressel, again , and ended up cracking the antenna right at the base. The following photo shows part of the crack and how I have extracted it from the SST base.
Visual inspection of the antenna reveals no damage...
