Is there such a thing as a "standard" trolling motor plug, or do they vary by trolling motor manufacturer? I was thinking of purchasing a trolling motor - not terribly large or fancy - and would like it to be easily removeable.

Also, if the power receptacle (with proper sized wiring) was installed, could this also serve as a power access point for a trickle charger for the batteries? Thanks for your comments.

Re: Trolling Motor Plug Standard

You don't use a trickle charger on a trolling motor battery. There is also no such thing as a "standard" trolling motor receptacle & plug. It makes absolutely no difference what style or type of plug you use (two, three or four termnals as long as there are enough for the application. 12 volt and 24 volt motors need only two terminals but you can use a three or four terminal variety -- you just don't use two terminals. If you have a 12/24 motor you need either a three or four terminal depending on the boat wiring. Yes, you can use the troller plug to charge the troller batteries but only if you have one battery. A 24 volt system has two batteries in series and therefore you would need a 24 volt charger or a dual output charger that you have have bridged the two outputs to provide 24 volts.
