My 85 Checkmate has a custom 350 in it. I'm sure the distributor is a Prestolite, but you guys might prove me wrong. The cap is clip on, and it does NOT have the little square sticking out of the bottom edge to line it up. It has a small gap in the bottom of the cap instead. I cannot find this...
Mine seems to suddenly not be pushing back far enough. I can get it to engage by hand, disconnected from the shift cable, but not with the 704. Even adjusted to where the rod end is dangerously loose at the end of the cable (I would never put it into service like that), it won't push back far...
Thanks... I appreciate the info. I understand how the shifting works; I didn't ask the question very well. I meant, unlike forward, which has a spring to help "pop" it into gear, reverse relies solely on the power of the cable pushing on it to get it into gear? So that adjustment is crucial...

The plastic plugs in my pontoon have disintegrated. I need to replace them. However, I'm not sure what size NPT plug I need.
How do you measure for the correct size? From the outside, or inside where the taper is narrower?

I was about to look at/buy this Pontoon... 1994 Party Barge. However, the engine concerns me. It looks NOTHING like any 1994 Merc/Tracker I can find. Although I can't see "Force" on it anywhere, is it a Force? Please help!!
