Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

If you can and will work on the engine I would go for OMC or Mercury engines from late 70.es and up until late 90.es. Newer engines from 2000 and up with fuel injection and more electronic stuff for the ignition and fuel system, then you need to have computer, special cables and software to...

    1988 125 HP Force Rebuild

Sandy in my opinion you do not need to balance the flywheel because of that little piece missing. It is just a couple of grams (I am in Sweden Europe) cause of that piece. The flywheels from factory was not super balance as it is not a racing engine and the highest RPM is about 5000. I would use...

    1988 125 HP Force Rebuild

There should be a sensor mounted in the head. A orange wire goes from the sensor to the terminal strip. It is a sensor not a sender, it is a bimetal and when to hot it short out to the block (ground). OEM the sensor is connected to a horn but can be connected to a indicator light.

Old 6 hp wizard made by chrysler

As it is a 1967-68 it suppose to have needle bearings in the crank shaft and in the connecting rods (the Chryslers does). You should be able to run it with less oil than 24:1.

    Chrysler 35hp Tachometer

Aftermarket tachometers often use the signal from the alternator and than you have to have a tachometer that will work with a 8 pole alternator. Old OEM tachometers for Chrysler use the ignition puls for the coils as signal.

    Chrysler 35hp Tachometer

Yes if it has battery ignition system. White cable for the top ignition coil will also feed the tachometer with pulses.

    What year?

Would guess 1995 and newer. Mercury stop build Force after 1999.

    1974 35hp Chrysler. Battery ignition.

357HE is a 1974, 35Hp from 1976 and later I believe and from the 25, 30, 35Hp family you just set the points gap. No fine tuning at a timing rod as there is no timing rod, just adjust the points gap.

    1974 35hp Chrysler. Battery ignition.

If it is a 1974 year model it is from the engine family 35-45-50-55Hp. All things on the engine was swapable to the different horse powers. The timing on these engines should be 32 dgr BTDC at WOT (factory spec). With the fuel nowadays I would suggest to set it at 28-30 dgr BTDC at WOT. If there...

Cracked bearing carrier, run or replace?

Yes as racerone says, when installing the carrier you have to turn the crankshaft or the prop shaft sligtly. The revers gear and the pinion has to connect correct in the tooth. If the tooth at the pinion and revers gear hit each other top to top the carrier will not go all the way in and if you...

    1974 Chrysler 135 hp limping

That clean head can indicate water intrusion in the cylinders. Head gasket looks fine BUT you may have a crack in the water jackets and when the water pump impeller set the cooling system under pressure a water mist can occur due to a crack in the water jackets. I have seen this issue on...

    1974 Chrysler 135 hp limping

WinnerCougar74 looks like pre detonation has damage one of the pistons and lean mixture or clogged carb damage the other. Maybe some overheat too.

    1987 Force 50hp head warpage.

Yes like racerone says. Resurface it at a piece of glass and water sanding paper. sand it and do it in a 8 pattern way. Check it with a straight ruler and a filer gauge. 0,004-0,006 gap is acceptable. No sealer at the head gasket, assemble it dry and torque from center and out. Torque it to spec...

    Evinrude 7.5hp kill switch issue

Yes, Crosbyman is right about using the old method to choke it until it stops. Two ways to go, change the CDI pack or use the one that is at the engine and kill it by the choke.

    Mercury thunderbolt 500

Agree with you Jimmbo, those red and blue decals from 1968 to 1975 are the best looking Mercurys. Have three of them myself, 1970 500 Thunderbolt, 1971 800 Thunderbolt and 1972 800 Thunderbolt. All with distributer ignition system.
