All,
1984 Mercrusier 260 5.7 Liter: Was taking on water a couple weeks ago along with a gurgling sound. . Pulled the boat, pulled off the elbows and ran water through both sides of the Y pipe with a hose....saw the water coming in from very bottom of the transom. Have to assume it is the Y...
All,
1984 Chris Craft 260 w/ Mercrusier 260 I/O needs a new Y exhaust. Cant find anyone to do the job for less than $2,000 so even though I don't have time, I'll have to do the repairs myself.
Other then the Y pipe itself, what else will I need, or should have on hand? There is seal...
OK..to make a long story short...1984 Chris Craft Scorpion was "gifted" to me 3 years ago..it spend many years in storage, so its in great shape for its age, but after 3 years I am ready to move on. The Y pipe is shot at the very bottom and the boat is taken on water.
Can I plug the exhaust...
So in trying to determine why I am taking on water, one suggestion was the Y pipe. While I could not recreate this by running on muffs, a marine mechanic told me it is possible that it is still the Y pipe based on how high the water is in the manifold....does this make sense? The boat took on...
I have an 1984 Chris Craft MerCrusier I/O which is leaking water into the boat from the area near the inner transom plate. It was severe enough that I has to pull the boat so I am now unable to figure out exactly where it is coming from. The leakage is occurring with the engine running or not...
What? And the instructions are wrong as well? And me crawling under a brand new boat in a showroom to see they exact same weep holes on a new boat was wrong and then asking a mechanic at the shop what they were for and he said "weep" holes for winter storage....all wrong?
All,
These pictures show indentations in the gimbal bearing housing of a MC alpha one outdrive. According to MC these are considered "weep holes", and the only time you need to be concerned about them is when the boat is laid up for the winter. They need to be open so water "weeps" out of the...
All,
Just serviced my outdrive and when running on muffs, water is coming out of the weep hole (shift shaft hole), I have seen various names...my merc manual calls it a drive unit water drain hole.
Any way, I never noticed that before but I looked around a little on the forums and it seems...
All,
When I put my outdrive back together the other day, the replacement gasket was a little wider than the gasket that came off, and it pushed up against the water inlet o ring a little. Not so much that it came out of the cavity it sits in, but enough so that on the right side of the cavity...
In the outdrive gasket kit I got fro my alpha one, the two seals that go on the axle shaft (if that's what its called) are slightly thicker than the current ones. Is this how all new ones come or are they the wrong size? Worried I'll have a hard time getting the outdrive in with the new seals...
All, My 1984 mercrusier I/O system with an alpha one has the the mercrusier cathode system. as part of this is a series or grounding wires in various parts of the outdrive. They are all in place, but most are covered with paint from the previous owner. I'm think they should be cleaned and...
All,
There is a wire that runs under the bottom of the housing, right near where the shifter shafts line up...is that a ground wire and should it be free of paint and such?
Thanks for your help..
So I removed the out drive from my Mercrusier alpha one to clean and repaint, and after a week the trim cylinders are not aligned any longer...how can I align them so I wont have an issue when I put the overdrive back on?
Thanks in advance for your help
All,
My out-drive got pretty pitted during last season, so I was getting ready to wire brush, sand, and put some primer and then new paint on it. As I was cleaning it up I noticed what looks to be the gasket between the out-drive and the bell housing sticking out on both sides just between...
