All, My 1984 mercrusier I/O system with an alpha one has the the mercrusier cathode system. as part of this is a series or grounding wires in various parts of the outdrive. They are all in place, but most are covered with paint from the previous owner. I'm think they should be cleaned and make sure the connection is clean, however, wont they just corrode if not protected? Under all that paint, shouldn't the original connection still be good?

Thanks

The wires are stainless as are the screws and they are going into aluminum. If they are tight and sound I would leave them.Covered with paint is fine as long as it is not copper bottom paint. If your curiousity still irks you then take the one you feel is most suspect and take it apart and see if there is any corrosion affecting the connection.Chrlie

If you don't keep your boat in the water, then the Mercathode system is of no concern and not needed
