My trim lines need replaced. They disappear into a dark hole in the transom bracket behind the engine. Anyone changed these out without pulling the engine? Boat is a 94 Four Winns Horizon 230 with the 5.8 FI and Cobra SX drive.
Two posts prior on here got me thinking. One addressed preload with new bearings vs preload with used bearings, the used bearings being about half the preload of new. The other post was about the input shaft bearing carrier shearing the 4 bolts off when it locked up. Yikes!
I recently...
Engine overheated and teardown found a piece of melted plastic at the top of the water tube where it enters the powerhead. Removed the plastic obstruction, reassembled, and test ran. Now I have water flow thru engine and it runs fine but water is leaking from several spark plug holes...
Have a 1994 Cobra SX that I am trying to remove the gimbal ring on. Have the factory manual and the 984146 OMC Steering Arm Puller. Ran into a couple problems. The dowels on the Puller are equal length, but when put into place, the puller sits crooked, like the dowels need to be different...
Its a Cobra SX, not Cobra, drive. Drive was disassembled by a shop that made a mistake and parts are now together in a box. ( They wont be covering their mistake and Im on my own with it now and, really, Im better off this way I believe).
I want the pinion bearing carrier shimmed, upper...
My 1994 Four Winns 5.8 EFI starts hard when warm. Smells gassy when cranking and wont quite light off. If I go wide open on the throttle, it generally fires right up - ala clear engine mode in a fuel injected Chevy. Suspecting one or more injectors are leaking. I know I can pull them all and...
1994 Four Winns Horizon 230 with 5.8 EFI/CobraSX drive.
When cold my engine starts right up but when warm, it takes lots of cranking to start it up. If I hold the throttle wide open it will start sooner. Makes me think its leaking fuel injector(s). Do I pull each spark plug and look for it...
After reading thru the shop manual on the prop seal replacement and knowing that the preloads need reset, pressure test, and yada yada yada, is the $1000 estimate that the shop wants to put in a new prop seal on my 94 Cobra SX drive excessive? At 100 an hour, I just cant see more than 3 to 5...
1995 Cobra SX drive with 5.8 EFI in a 23 ft Four Winns Horizon.
I have an opportunity to buy a never used Cobra SX drive with 1.43 gear ratio. My current drive is a 1.51 ratio. Would using a smaller pitch prop make up for the gear ratio difference?
