    Exhaust Manifold at 200 degrees

Hello. Mercruiser Alpha 1 w/ Chevy 305. Lake water cooled. Runs fine. 160 at the thermostat. Cheap IR gun says 209 degrees on starbord Exhaust manifold. Thing on top of that (risor?) is only 90degrees. Slight burning smell every once in a while. Thoughts, comments?

"Clunked" once, then OK? Alpha 1

Was doing a bit of waterskiing in the rain over the weekend. "Hit it" once and heard a pretty good clunk. Not happy. Ran great the rest of that run and the day. Any thoughts?

    Fluke anchor or Navy anchor?

It,s for an 18 ft. bowrider with a v8. Total weight 2,500 lbs? Usual anchor in a sand/mud bottom river, not a strong current (Illinois River). I'll add 9 ft' of chain to an 8lb anchor. Is either better than the other? Thanks.

    Waterskiing near Chicago?

I feel stupid even asking the question as I have lived here a long time and have owned several boats. My kids are starting to slalom and I'm not happy with the places we usually boat. Unfortunately we are weekend boaters living just West of the city. Lake Michigan..we put in at Burnham harbor...

T- Stat wont budge on Mercruiser 305

It's a 1985 MR 200 Serial # A 389809. I can not get the thing out. I do not see an o ring of any type. Son, good eyes, says the word "motor" is stamped on it. I've tried pulling, prying, and cutting. Feeling stupid as I expected this to be very quick. Searched the site figuring others...

    Filling small gaps in deck

Hello. Cut out a soft spot. Have used penetrating epoxy, 2 coats, from west marine on the edges of the remaining deck. Hard to describe but there are a couple of small gaps, 1/4" x 3", here and there. Once I put the new wood in I will cover with 2 layers of cloth and a load of epoxy. Part...

First too hot then too cold?

Merc 305 V8 with Alpha 1. First start of year. I do the winterizing. Starts fine on muffs but gets to 200+ within 3 minutes. Shut it down. Water in block and both those black iron things next to the valve covers. Restart, with the hose that brings water into the engine disconnected just...

Don't forget the paperclip when winterizing!

I know it gets mentioned in some posts, but I thought it deserves a headline. When draining the block be sure to straighten out a paperclip and poke it through the various drain valves to be sure you have all the water out. I was sure all the water had come out of mine. Poked it and couldn't...

    South Haven

Hi Guys. I'll be in South Haven for a bit and was wondering, besides the big lake, what other lakes in the area would be worth going to? Thanks.

Off Roading in NW lower Michigan

Going to be near Sleeping Bear Dunes next week. Probably will have a few non-boating days due to weather. I know all the hiking trails well, but have never gone 4 wheeling. Can anyone suggest a spot for a newbie? Thanx.
