I’ve had an ‘85 Evinrude 25HP for 16 years and counting. It’s on my fishing boat (not the primary boat) but it gets used frequently. In all those years I’ve only tuned it and changed the water pump ONCE, but I do change the gear oil every couple years. They are bulletproof!

I use one of those cheap rechargeable “tennis rackets” to dispatch spiders and mud daubers. Works very well just after dusk, and makes a VERY satisfying SNAP! Since I have a cabin boat, I’ve used a bug bomb inside in the early spring. That keeps all the insects at bay until late summer.

You gotta find the solenoids. They are there somewhere, and as alldodge and Ted mentioned, should be within a foot or so of the windlass itself. Here is a picture of a typical solenoid panel, showing both solenoids and the circuit breaker. Maybe this will help. Good luck!
