It's a floating pin that slides out if you push the spring to the side.

Is the spring located at the bottom of the clutch? the reason i ask is because i can not feel it.
Im trying to get the prop shaft out and i think i have to get these items off first. I need to replace the vertical drive shaft in the lower unit it sheared in two.

Well Dumb A.. here really messed up. like i mentioned i sheared the vert drive shaft on a brand new out drive.
After looking and reading the manual you have to put the lower unit into forward to be able to turn the prop shaft and remove the pinon nut. Its kinda hard to do after removing the shift rod. I think this new lower unit is headed to the scrap pile. It only has 12-14 hrs on it. Way to go me!!!!!!!!

2 reasons i can think of, a missing tooth got jammed in there or a severe prop strike within 2-3 years

I looked real closely to all parts no dings, dents, worn or missing teeth.
the drive has never hit a thing, no sand bar, no rocks and no logs
Also it was a new outdrive with less than 15 hrs on it.
Thats why i dont have a clue.

I don't see how you got the prop shaft out. A little wiggling and waggling?

The shaft looks like an extremely clean break...as in factory defect. I bet you can get a new drive because of it.
