Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

I've only seen under the floor of one of these and can't recall it exactly. I vaguely remember beams going from side to side. I might have to create another post - someone has one torn down in another thread.
thanks

nope......3 stringers......and the frames that cross the stringers are just there to screw the deck to.

the hull ext thread documents it all

jrolland.
That's okay - I forgot your pics too. I'll get 'em before the weekend is out though.
My floor is solid - no locker, but the belly tank I have is 26" wide and I would put it in the same location. I really can't remember what's under the floor exactly. I wonder if Searay but the locker in between some wood or just built a box and sunk it.

Oops.
Thanks, I just remember a lot more wood than most.
I haven't checked in on the hull extension in about a week or so...time to do so.
They're soooooo many posts!
I assume you have some good shots of what's under the floor (?).
What's you opinion of switching to a 40 gal belly tank? 8" high, 26" wide, 46" long.

Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

i just put in a ski locker in mine where a belly tank would go.

i dont know if getting the weight out of the bow would be right on that boat.

i mean....the 190's sit so pretty in the water.....i mean just perfect....i think there was a reason for putting the weight so far foward.

the center stringer runs from the motor cage forward....but the keel in those things are really tough...so it would take it....id beef up the glass in the tank area however...just to be certain.

a person could allways empty the tank and add 200 lbs in the center and see what it looks like......

as far as the ext thread....yup its a monster...wee are at 100 pgs so far....i know there is another 50 to go before i get her done.

the best way is to read the whole thing start at the beginning and do half hour a night.....the thread and reading holds you...its really gripping...

there is fantastic info on there from all the posters...ondarvr gives expert glassing info....that thread is epic

Love the lines of your boat there, jrolland. Good luck with the resto! Our neighbours down the bay had one of those when I was a kid and I loved watching it go by. All class.

One small item to park down at the bottom of your to do list. Get some fenders on that trailer if you're going to pull it any distance. Be a shame to pepper your hull with pebble and grit marks considering the work you're going to getting her in shape!

Thank you! That is one of the many reasons why I love this boat. She needs some work but I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep her on the water as long as I can. Thanks for the suggestion as well. I never really gave that any thought until you said that. Chances are I won't be towing her any farther than 10 or 15 miles. Besides I was thinking about getting another trailer anyway. The one she is on it kind of beat and I would rather pay more attention restoring the boat than the trailer.

Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

Here are a few pics I promised. I just pulled her Thursday and the maid hasn't been in yet - please excuse the mess.
Note the loungers provide plenty of room.
The jump seats are long gone as are the panels that go behind them...makes access a snap! I was thinking of putting curtains there to hide the crap.
The little teak step thingies topside came off a '74 SRV207 last year. I have the teak trim rail to go around the rear too. But first, I want to move the light to the starboard side. Whenever people climb up the swim platform into the boat, they always seem to grab onto the light pole.
I have a mahogany flagpole off a vintage Cris Craft to go where the light is now.
Last spring I installed tunes along with four speakers. You can see the rear ones mounted on mahogany.
I have some more mahogany to trim up the side panels where the carpeting stops and doesn't meet the trim.

Thanks for the pictures. The boat looks nice! It's also nice to have another interior to compare mine too. As you can see from my photos the jump seats have been removed from mine as well. I haven't decided if I want to replace the seats or not. I will however have to rebuild the dog house.

Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

That's the third doghouse on that boat. The top piece has lived through them all - go figure.
The one there now was a complete rebuild from scratch.
I'd like to put some sound proofing on the inside, but I'm not willing to go $200 for the marine stuff...wonder if construction insulation would work(?).

The problem I found with the jump seats on this boat are...in the way fishing and crabbing, and - not wide enough to be comfortable for adults.
Not having them has spoiled me with access too.

Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

go get yourself some rubber pool liner from a home store.....it is just about like dyna mat......stops sound cold......the other thing to do is use it on the panels behund the jump seats.....and section off the area where the control cables come thru under the cap edges........i did it to mine (not the pool liner) and i cut the noise 30%.......im reall excited to listen to the improvements ive put into the new design........i dont want to hear the motor....not at all !

You know, I forgot that I don't have kick panels on the back.
That would probably go a long way in quieting things down.
Don't I feel stupid...but then I might have to see if the blower works!

Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

Well I don't know who is still following this but I haven't done much with the boat this winter mostly due to the fact it is sitting in 3 feet of snow. Not to mention it took a back seat to snowboarding. What I am planning on doing soon is finishing the teak, getting the drive back and on the boat. Next comes the thermostat, starter, bellows, exhaust flaps and some little things. I will update again when I start things back up. I am however hoping that this year will be the year I get her in the water at least a couple times.

I'm watching.
I have this and a couple other SRV threads bookmarked.
I started on mine today by putting the name on the transom.
It's a start.:)

I wish I could get at mine! The snow is kind of melting now but the boat is up at my summer place where it doesn't get as warm and there is more trees blocking the sun. I think I am going to have to snow blow the driveway to get her out.

Haha don't worry there will be some pics for ya! I don't know when I will be able to get back into it full force because we still have quite a bit of snow but no worries you guys will be the first to know.

Yeah, use the snow to build an igloo over the boat.:D

Damn what a good idea! I should have thought of that sooner!

Hi J, been watching to see what you do with the teak. I'm planning on putting a teak deck in mine. Have you looked at the Sikkens products? I've heard some good things about them.

Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

I'm putting teak planking on the forward deck of my boat, as well as a teak swim platform on the transom, and dive platform over the outdrive. I'm interested to see what you do to refinish your teak.

I've already bought some interlux perfection varnish as I was impressed with their paints. I wonder if it will stand up well over the years? Have you thought about using this, or does anybody have any experiences?

Re: 1975 Sea Ray SRV190 Restoration

I came across a really grungy one for cheap a few seasons back. I took it in the woodshop, scraped and sanded as best as possible, then varnished several times.
As you can see, it's ready for another coat.

I have been trying to figure that out myself. I am not sure which direction I should go with it. I was planning on checking out some products but I just never got around to it. I haven't looked at sikkens products but I will add it to the list. I will let you know what I come up with as well as post some pics.
