Is there a reason I need to build an outdrive stand for my outdrive when I pull it? any reason I cant just lay it on its side?

Won't hurt a thing to lay them down.

Laying on its side just makes it a bit harder to work on...

I use a Black & Decker "Workmate" bench. With the prop removed, the whole unit fits nicely.

I've got a second one which I use if I seperate the upper, again, being adjustable it works well to hold/work on.

when I pull my 5.7 ltr engine will it mount up to an engine stand? Id really like to put it on a stand to make it easier to work on. Change plugs/ touch up the paint etc...

It will bolt to a stand if you remove the flywheel cover, coupler and flywheel.
