I will be starting this project very soon! I'm excited about it. My dad bought this boat in 1978 brand new and I just got it about 5 months ago. The motor runs pretty good, but the floor is soft and crumbling and the boat is in need of a few repairs. I have been surfing this site for about 7 months looking at various projects and have gained a lot of insight into what I'm up against. I look forward to completing this project. I'm not looking at doing a full restore, but I am a bit of a perfectionist and will probably go further than I intended because, well, that's just me:)

It has been painted since the original color, but still looks pretty good!

Here's the original. I'd like to do that same paint job if I can. Retro it back! The boat and my dad. Several years ago

That's me laying on the back bench as a kid. I remember it like it was yesterday!

Just a few more pic's. The plywood is to keep from going through the floor, it's crumbling:blue: We went fishing, tubing and knee boarding this last week. Last trip before the teardown.

I agree things redone the way they were new. It is to cool a blast from the past.

That is one of the big attractions to me doing mine. My aunt and uncle had one just like it when I was a kid. I loved riding in that boat when I was about as old as you were in the picture.

Yours will be a good looking boat when your finished with it.

Thanks chevymaher! I'm excited and a little nervous to get at it. It will be my first boat project, but I'm pretty handy. The only thing that I'm concerned about is removing the motor. I don't have a driveway that I can back the boat in, put it on a stand and wheel it in. I live in a subdivision and my driveway has a short down slope. Gonna have to think this through a bit, but I'll get it.

:welcome: to the Srarmada moio, seeing your thread here in the general resto forum can be a chore among all the glassers. Come on over to the Starcraft forum where it's channel TIN 24/7.

Love the big SS and in a V5, super rare to see. :thumb:

Hey Watermann,

It's a 140. It pushes it pretty good and still runs well for a 1976. There is a lot of room in that boat. We had 6 in our family as a kid so my dad thought we needed the room.

What size is your SS? looks nice:D

My V5 is an 18'r, I would've loved to find a big girl but that would be a long wait and drive not too mention I'd need a few more feet of garage.

Ok, I'm gonna be back at it in a couple of days. I had to go out of town to help out my parents, they are in bad health right now.

I have found the 1/2 marine plywood for the decking and will get it this weekend.

Is there any specific epoxy I should use to seal it? I read about Spar varnish, or General purpose. Is that something that I can get at Home Depot or Lowes?

I'm going to order my Rivets and Gluvit hopefully tonight. Any recommendations on how much to get?
WIll one -2 lb work or should I get more?

I'm excited to get at this project.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Jerome

Also, I've sent a message to the moderator to see if they can move my thread to the Starcraft forum. If not, I might just have to repost it myself.

Thanks!
