Greetings,
I have a 1989 Arriva 2050 that I am restoring and repowering. I have removed the original Mercruiser 5.0 LX and purchased a 2002 MAG 350 MPI that I got a good deal on. The problem is that the new engine is setup for a Bravo drive. To keep my costs reasonable I am trying to figure out what all I need to do in order to change this setup from Bravo to Alpha so that I can utilize my current Alpha gen1.
So far I have figured out that I can remove the Bravo seawater pump and get the Alpha serpentine belt. After doing this I can get the water hose for the Alpha setup that goes from the transom to the power steering cooler. As far as I can tell these things will be all that is needed to change over the cooling system from Bravo to Alpha.
Also, from what I can determine, the Bravo coupler should work with the Alpha drive.
What I am stuck on and need guidance with is the shift interrupt configuration and the ecm. Is it possible to simply just change out the shift interrupt assembly from Bravo to Alpha or will my ecm need to be reprogrammed for Alpha? Are there any other solutions?
Finally, at the end of the day would it be cheaper to just find a nice used Bravo 1?
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Ken
