If I went and bought a Nissan Titan rated at 9,700 Lbs or a Ford F-150 Rated at 10,000 Lbs youz would all be mad if'n I had a 7,900 ppound boat to tow. Everyone would say don't do that. Youz would ask why did youz not get a F-350 Turbo Desel or a Chevy 2500 Duramax or a Dodge Cummins Turbo Desel.

Tell you why cause your all power hungry.

If the manuel states 7,500Lbs and you have 7,500 Lbs to tow including gear, passengers ,etc its gonna be fine.

All you need to worry about is are your gonna be able to stop it? Thats the real question.

As long as you go by the manual its gonna be fine.

I get so tired of seeing will my X pull this. Probably as long as the manual says you can.

If you need a very large truck for your tiny wee little boat then go for it.

This is overkill and 13mpg. Tow rated to 7,000 Lbs.

This is just right and 17mpg while towing. Tow rating 4,000 Lbs.

Tow weight is 1996 LBs with full fuel rods cooler etc ready to go.

With the Ford the axle was naked as in no brakes.
With the Chevy I had to add brakes due to the manual stating I had to have for over 1,000 Lbs trailer weight.

And the Chevy feels bettter when towing even without the brakes installled.

It's called rationalization, Realgun.

1. We know that we are gonna get a BIG boat someday, one that will require a F350 AWD dually with a Powerstroke. Why waste bux on a vehicle we'll have to replace right after dropping big bux on the new boat?

2. If we are cruising at 85-90 and have to stop quickly, even a 14' tinny can upset an otherwise adequate tow vehicle.

3. Women don't understand facts and logic. If I WANT a big dually and explain that it is much safer to tow with I don't have to mess with facts and logic. :)

4. Too little tow vehicle is deadly; too much is just right and bigger than that is even better.

How big a boat you wanna tow?
A four-wheel-drive monstrosity, this International CXT pickup truck can haul a22-ton trailer  and boasts a 25,999-pound GVWR. Cost is $90,000. Fuel economy ranges between 7 and 10 mpg.
Yep. MORE POWER. It's the American way and I love it...

Fuel economy? What's that? Really had never been a concern of mine. After all, I'm addicted to oil...Prez Bush himself told me so, so it must be true! Boats and 4 wheelers in summer, snowmobiles in winter, muscle cars and race cars all year 'round. If I don't spend $500+ on any given month on gasoline alone, it means I must have been ill for a while...actually now at $3.00 per gallon, that monthly budget is hovering closer to $700 now...

I don't think there's a vehicle in my fleet that gets more than 15 mpg, except maybe a 4 wheeler...not sure. On my last two new cars I had to pay the gas guzzler tax. And I'm glad to give the gov't a bit more of my hard earned cash for the right to own and drive those fuel pigs. I love being an American....

Sorry you're not feeling so well yourself...I'll try not to make you sick any longer. :D

This is just perfect:

Rated at 4400lbs towing, and I weighed the boat motor, trailer, gear, beer, food, etc., and I'm at 4354lbs.

I suppose you change the oil in the car on the side of the road as well, so it don't dirty the back of the car when you take it to the recycling station.

What are you going to do when petrol hits $5 a gallon? Or $6?

I forgot. You don't care.

Question # 1: No. My used oil is recycled. Very nice out-of-nowhere assumption, though... ;)

Question # 2: Pay it. It'll sting, but it'll also make me much happier than staying at home. Our friends in Europe and many other developed countries have been paying such prices for quite a long time now, it'll hit here soon enough. Believe it or not, $3 gas is still fairly reasonable in the US when compared to historical inflation....but people have very short memories and refuse to acknowledge that. $5 to $6 would be historically high, however. Yet I'm sure it will happen. And frankly it's just what this country needs to get that last good push to perfect the technology of alternative fuels and technology for transportaion. And when those alternatives are viable for everyday use in transportation and recreation, I will buy them, use them, and stop burning fossil fuel, just like everyone else. But until then, I'll be burning up dead dinosours in my many fuel tanks.

:p With all due respect Realgun there are a few things that your not taking into consideration. Perhaps the most underlooked one is the intense comptetion for mfg's to state the maxium load (Trailing) capacity. Now im not saying they are mistating or misrepresenting there facts and figures, take a closer look aka.......... :D Intel vs Amd ....Amd lower stated values yet much higher speeds........ ;) (Amd that is)

I think if you ask any experienced hauler that any weight over 5000lbs almost demands a 3/4 to 1 ton truck. Why do you ask, just get a 5000lb load fish tailing..........highwinds........wet&slippery roads.........or the need to come to a very aburprt stop. It is suspension and brakes that contain these out of the norm loads, and in those situations one can almost never have enough truck............. ;)
