Time and more time on the water. It helps if you sit in the middle of the boat and as close to the water line as possible. The movement is minimal compared to being at ether end of the boat.

- ginger pills work wonders, ginger snap cookies are good too
- Dramamine works OK, but gives you dry mouth, fuzzy head
- dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) is $10/100 bottle at the drug store
- Transderm-Scop patch works great, (you can get them from Canada without prescription....)
- Scopolamine pills work better than the patch and "can" work after you are sea sick
- Electronic zapper wrist strap takes the edge of

I have first hand experience with all of these... Never blew chunks though :D

What not to do...
- get a crappy night sleep the night before
- sit on the stern sucking up diesel exhaust fumes
- eat a greeezy breakfast burrito w/XXX hot sauce

Re: your sea sick remedy ?

I my brother and several friends became seasick fishing aboard a 23 flying bridge when we were boys, four of us elbow to elbow hanging over the side. The oldest and son of the captain laughed at us and told us to "drink DR. Pepper" like he was and he "felt fine".Our fathers told us to hang in there as the king mac bite was on.A while later the older friend emerged from the front hatch and yaked all over the boat! His dad was pissed and told him to clean it up!but he had to join us at the hurling party we were having in the rear first. As he hurled along side me I looked at him and asked "Hows that DR Pepper workin for ya?" What a great way for young boys to bond!

HAAA... what a great memory from when I was young and went fishing with my Dad and uncles.. after 4 hours of me chumming the water (Lake Erie 3-5 footers in a 19' Grady White) one of my uncles convinced me to eat a grapefruit.

To this day I can't eat grape fruit.

I haven't been seasick since then and haven't used any otc or prescription remedy. But I have a bigger boat than they had and I don't go out when it's that rough and it has worked well for me.

Makes me wonder what really causes seasickness .

Basically when the eyes and inner ear give conflicting signals to the brain it contributes to the hurl party. Thats why looking at the horizon helps.
Conversely, staring at something inside the boat makes it worse as there is no relative movement for the eyes but the inner ears are screaming "movement".

On a 24 miles out fishing trip out of Mayport jetties, I found that the best formula was dramamine + nibble on anything salty + and sip Bud light all day.

Another thing is to stay cool and not to concentrate on the boat movement which explains why catching fish is a good preventive cure.

Then if you are catching fish ... high on dramamine ... full stomac on finger food ... and drink beer all day ... there is no time left for getting sea sick ... LOL

1 Dramamine or TripTone the night before going out, 1 in the morning, and 1 every 4-6 hours after. I rarely get sick, but I have found the 100? sun, 4' rollers abeam, and no fish biting will make you feel like chumming just for something to do.

Ever notice that as soon as the boat starts moving, everyone's fine again?

SO true. After years of not being affected I recently came close when my buddy spilled a can of Planters mixed nuts on the deck while w caught stripers trolling just offshore w the 4+ rocking the boat good as we frantically reeled in one after the other.the nuts were like ball bearings under our feet and had to go!As I dove on the floor and tried to scoop them up I soon became very nautious and stood back up quickly. it took a while but I recovered w/o incident back on my feet.

My admiral gets sea sick easily. I never have. She use to use dramin and other pills but they put her to sleep or make her grogy. Neither good. I bought a relief band electric watch and she has never gotten seasick since then. They work immediately and no side effects. They also work for those that get car or plane sick too. Got mine from West Marine...

Re: your sea sick remedy ?

This is motion sickness, due to the conflicting information being sent to your eyes, ears and body, etc.

If i know that I am going to be tossed about,

1) dramamine at least 2 hours before hitting the water.
2) breakfast of toast, no butter.
3) keep your eyes on the horizon.
4) don't go below.
5) don't talk about it.
6) resist Tequila before lunch.
