I've never been sea sick so I really cant say, but she swears by them, and she gets sea sick in a pool.
If your fishing and start catching fish , suddenly nobody's seasick anymore !
Seriously , I've seen it again and again . Makes me wonder what really causes seasickness .
I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't get sick but I know better than to gloat because I've seen some old salts get sick for the first time after fishing offshore for many years .
So thats my remedy , Just Keep Catching Fish !
I agree with all of the above replies. I also think that 95% of seasickness is in the head. If you concentrate on something OTHER than the seas IE: catching fish, driving the boat, etc you will be fine.
I swear I became seasick years ago from smelling 2stroke smoke on a slow, hot, light wind afternoon w swells when we trolled with the wind to long.I think if we had trolled into the light wind and not with it I would have been fine.Ive also had great success w the "Hug a tree" remedy mentioned earlier!Ive tried the "lay down flat on your back" technique on couch on a large sportfishing boat and it worked that day, I think the hum of the big diesels helped w that.If your prone to seasickness dont get hammered the night before your voyage, and eat a light breakfast before departing.its worked well for me on rough days.
My wife gets seasick if you slosh a glass of water infront of her!! What am I going to do with her as I just bought a 22' Doral Tara and want her to go out with me fishing or at least crusing. I'd do anything so she would appreciate the boat a little more then just calling it HER pay check money pit when she frowns at me over her glasses. HELP ME:redface:
I've been in 12 foot seas and never gotten sick but and old salt who was a shrimper told me that shrimpers take ginger root capsules. Start taking them the night before and keep taking 2 every 3 hours. There are no side affects like motion sickness pills.
Terra Firma.....
As for doing something, I recall my Dad taking time out while fighting a king on Lake Ontario to chum. He never relinquished the rod or lost the fish.
