Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

You were doing great; until you asked me to adulterate that intoxicating ambrosia with sprite.

+1 ^^^

I'm not much of a Scotch fan, but I do have respect for the great JW. The introduction of Sprite to such a beverage is blasphemy, and ranks right up there with asking for the jelly when it's clear that Polander All Fruit is being served.... :D

Now of course I'm not above mixing soda with a spirit. My mainstay for a mixed drink is standard Crown Royal with ginger ale. Although if I happen to have Crown Royal Black or Reserve, no embellishment is necessary. Three fingers in a rock's glass (hold the rocks) will do thank you... ;)

*If you heard these words, you probably heard them as "brazhut" and "gabagool"

I haven't heard them personally from the horses mouth, but some others that come to mind are "Mootzahrella" and "Reegotta"...

My mostly Italian GF corrects me when I use the I and C in Ricotta, rather than E and G... I finally gave up, and gave in. At least she doesn't call tomato sauce "gravy"....

OK...I must come clean...most of you are not aware that the purpose in posting the original question was actually the fact-gathering aspect of a covert operation I have conducted. And I must say, lots of great menu selections have been identified and targeted for the next phase of my operation.

Now, I know you can tell from my PI, I'm located in Florida's panhandle. If you happened to glance at my other "Biloxi" post, you'll know that I'm headed that way this weekend; leaving tomorrow. Now for the execution phase of the operation:

jingrub, you're the first victim. On my way to Biloxi, I'm going to make a slight detour off I-10 for a visit with you. I would like to have a good ole southern meal and you're the long straw!

Incoop, you're next. After the game, I'm headed your way. I'll be wanting the porterhouse (rare baby!), brussel sprouts, blackberry cobbler...and make sure you're well stocked in the Johnny (w/ Sprite for me, please)

From there it's East to TN where I'll take a break from the "corotid killers" for some of Southkogs lighter fare...whatever you choose will be welcomed!

Robert Graham I haven't overlooked you! You'll be on the last leg of my venture. I'll be felling really heathy, I'm sure, after my meal with Southkogs, so make it something to "stick with me" for the trip back home (I'm figuring 10 hrs or so?).

As for the rest of you, you'll be included in my next operation if you'll complete your PI with your location so I can plan the route!

CheapboatKev...you thought I forgot you, didn't you? WRONG! You'll need to whip up some of your ribs and deliver them to Fireman431's place on June 9th...please be there by noon as I like to eat a bit before I jump headfirst into the rum!How did I do?:D

For a minute there I was feeling a little left out...lol :D

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

There is a restaurant in Racine WI that has the best prime rib in the world. I am not kidding. I have been around and this is just a fact. Berns steak house in Tampa comes close with a steak but for prime rib there is no better. Having said that, a large cut of prime with a great shrimp cocktail, a tall VO and 7 (thanks to my Canadian friends for the best spirits), I can see no better meal. The London room in the Hyatt Waikiki has a great chef and steaks to. For you in Tampa the grouper at Colonades on Bay to Bay boulevard is one of the best with their homemade blueberry muffins. Then in Rome a sidewalk cafe of the beaten path has a lasanga to die for. Now back in the day Anderson AFB in Guam had a Hawiian duck every now and then that was delish. Oh my I am getting very hungry just writing this. Time to go.

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

Living in the great white north can be a real drag sometimes but it also leads to one of my favorite times of the year. Spring, after the snow clears out and the ground starts to warm I watch for the Service berry trees to start to bloom. When you see those little white blooms its TIME. I`m talking Morels, natures tasty little morsels. I go out as many times as I can during that short little season but the first one is always the best. My Dad and I would gather a big batch of shrooms, throw them in the truck and grab the little ultralight rig and sneak down to one of the local creeks and snag a couple of brookies a piece and head home. Fresh brookies and morels, YUMMMMM Gonna be different without him this year but thats okay, I`ll have a glass of Johnny and smoke a Macanudo for ya Dad.

Many kinds of fish prepared many kinds of ways.Osso Buco, but I can't eat it because it's so rich it puts the hurt on me.Pecan pie.Great beer (there are so many great choices it can be overwhelming).Great Q with said great beer (lots of great Q around here).Grilled hot dogs (again, with beer).Cured meats.Hummus.Brussel sprouts. Asparagus.Blackberry cobbler.Cornbread dressing.Porterhouse steaks.Rustic whole grain breads. The oysters at this place http://www.ilovesunsets.com/restaurant.html.Johnny Walker (Blue if you're buying, black if I am;)).Who started this, anyway?:p
Hey Buddy,

Put your hot dogs(preferably angus) in a Zip-Loc bag, fill it with beer, seal it up and leave it in the fridge for 24-48 hours before you throw them on the grill... OH MY GAAAAWWWWWDDDD!!!!!!!!!!! Your gonna LOVE it.

I can't stand liver. Just the thought of it makes me wanna yuke... But ironically, I'm with you on the Foie Gras. Have you ever tried Truffle Mousse? I've had duck, goose, and mixed... It's outrageous!!!

Jonny Walker Blue??? Have you ever tried McCallans 30 year old?... WOW!!!

So, does it go without saying, that you sometimes slice you rustic whole grain breads thin and toast it for scoopin' up da hummus? I'm with ya on both of those, too. I also love hummus with untoasted bread, pita, and especially, "nan paratha", MMMmmmmmm!!!:D

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

Alright, here's my own...

Maine lobster 3lb or larger, split, gutted, and brushed generously with extra virgin olive oil(the greener the better). Lots of crushed fresh garlic with whatever fresh herbs I'm in the mood for at the moment which usually includes cilantro, italian parsley, oregano, lemon basil, and savory(summer or winter), freshly coarse ground green peppercorns, a squeeze of lemon, and all mixed with clarified butter. Paint it on to all the exposed flesh and place the split lobster carefully on the grill(charcoal or live wood embers), split side down. After three to five minutes, turn it and brush heavily again with the butter mixture before drizzling with more olive oil. Sprinkle generously with bread crumbs and allow it to grill on the back side for a few minutes. Stuff it with a mix of crabmeat, chopped shrimp, baby clams, mussels, and breadcrumbs, held together with the juices from the clams and mussels... Yes, use only fresh, whole ingredients(use a little of the butter mixture if there's not enough juice from the clams and mussels). Brush with the butter mix and allow it to grill for another 1 or 2 minutes, turn it back over carefully, and grill for another 5-8 minutes, depending upon the size of the lobster and the heat of your grill.

Grill whatever veggies you're in the mood for along with the lobster... I love to do a big fat juicy portabello mushroom or two... maybe three. Brush them down with the same butter mix and olive oil(stuff'em if you like). Add asparagus and sliced eggplant for the perfect trifecta of veggies for this meal(all on the grill, of course).

There's plenty of carbs in the breadcrumbs, making this a very well balanced meal, but some "Ranger IPA" or whatever beer or wine you like, will round it out perfectly.:D

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

Get yourself a cedar plank for grilling and soak it in a light lager beer overnight.
Fillet the meat off the bones of a fresh caught carp leaving the skin on and nail the four corners to the board with non-galvanized wide head nails.
Melt a stick of butter in a saucepan over low heat and mix in dill, chopped onion, anise, fennel, garlic, pepper, and a little Old Bay.
Cook the above mixture for 30 minutes at less than a simmer to extract the flavors of the veggies and herbs.
Pour the mixture over the meat covering all surfaces of the fish and board thoroughly.
Fire up the grill to medium heat.
Place the board and fish on the grill and squeeze a lemon over the meat while on the grill.
Cook until meat flakes easily with a fork.
Carefully remove the nails.
Throw the carp in the trash and eat the board.

:p

Surely there's someone on here who eats carp who'll chime in...

I've heard that one many times in reference to many fish. Never eaten carp myself, but I know plenty of guys who grew up gigging them and bringing them home for their mothers to pressure cook and can.

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

Even with my last meal qualifier I can't do this. I love almost everything!!!

I'd have to have some caviar, I'd have to have copious amounts of crab. I need something fried, and I need a beef dish. I also think maybe some Lamb, and I like the Foie Gras suggestion. I also need a perfect Caesar Salad.

I'd start with a Pope Martini from Pizzaioli (local place) It is a Sapphire Dry martini with a hand stuffed Anchovie Olive. Flippin' amazing, especially the little oil slick. Then some decent Champagne and follow that with a high end New Zealand Marlborough region Sauvignon Blanc. With dinner I'd like a 2001 Shiraz from the Margaret River region of Western Australia. A 30 year old Port for dessert and finish with an 18 year old Single Malt. Probably a MacCallan's.

Still not happy with that. I need a proper lengua taco, some quail dish, I'd like a Baja Fish taco, but has to be right. Hmmm, that could be the fried dish. And I forgot good Tequila. What about pasta? What about bread? This stinks . . .

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

I made fresh pasta and I made a lemon wine butter sauce with sun dried tomato and fresh basil, I put a piece of goat cheese and the sauce on top of a garlic oil marinated chicken breast and melted the cheese...Carrabba's calls it Chicken Brian, my GF called it a 9.75 out of 14, I called it awesome to recreate something I tried twice at their restaurant...
