Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

one of my favorite appetizers- MOINKS
take a store bought italian style meatball, the frozen kind, thaw, wrap in bacon and secure with toothpick, hit with your favorite BBQ rub and smoke at high temp, like 350 for about 30-45 minutes until the bacon is where you want it, roll in bbq sauce and throw back on to caramelize.

This thread is unfair to people who have had their food options severely curtailed. What is left when cholesterol, saturated fats and carbohydrates are essentially forbidden or severely reduced??

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

Honestly.... It's more like what don't I like. There isn't much....

-Steak... Heck I'm even happy with a London broil, or flank steak. Of course the kings are porter house, fillet, prime rib.
I have mentioned this before in previous threads, but for really good steaks, there is a local farm that raises grass fed Angus. Last night I split a NY sirloin from there with my girlfriend that was out of this world. Beefy, juicy, buttery flavor, with only salt and pepper as seasonings.

- Seafood.... Maine/New England lobster is the top of my food chain. Salmon, I particularly like seasoning a Salmon fillet with Old Bay, lemon and olive oil, then shoving it under the broiler. Paired with Asparagus and rice pilaf, its good eats. Of course there is fried clams and scallops, Woodman's style. Raw Oysters. Sushi. Etc,etc,etc...

- BBQ.... Brisket and or ribs are my favorite. A proper pig roast is excellent too.

- International food... Italian, Tex Mex, Japanese, Chinese dim sum, Thai, Indian, German, French, even a traditional Irish boiled dinner... All excellent.

- Veggies... A proper salad is refreshing now and then. Not many veggies that I don't like, their all good. Well.... Maybe except for Broccoli Rabe. That stuff is like eating cabbage that has been soaked in battery acid.

-Junk.... Pizza, Regular Chinese, and of course some days you just want a cheese burger...

No wonder why I'm a fat b****rd..... :D

I'll try that! Never had clam sauce. Now if I could get the water out here to calm down so I can get out in my little boat for crabbing, I'd be all over it. Rings off of the jetty just aren't the same.

man, this thread is killin me right now, forcing down this dry pbj. :(

One thing I forgot to add....HOMEMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS!!!
torts.jpg

Growing up in SoCal, m best friend across the street was Mexican, and his Grandmother would make tortillas..Loved having breakfast there..I am very critical of "Mexican" food now..and it's hard to getreal good Mex food here in Florida. I have my sster send me Chile Colorado sauce from home so I can make, well..Chile Colorado

Big bowl of slow cooked butter beans with a ham hock that was cooked in with them, a side bowl of collards or kale, a huge hunk of warm mexi-cornbread with butter, and a big glass of buttermilk! Nanner puddin for desert!!!

Fried Crappie, tater salad, and baked beans! Pecan pie and a tall glass of cold milk for desert!

Leftover grilled steak in brown gravy over jasmine rice, and buttered green peas (not canned)! Strawberry shortcake or dutch apple pie for desert!

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

Favorite meal is most every Saturday Eve from May to Sept:

Friday night go to boat, enjoy a frosty or two and set the crab traps.
Saturday morn 5am fish for two fat fluke, filet and chill.
Stop in the flats on the way back from the inlet and drag up two dozen topneck hard clams
Pull the crab traps for 6-10 nice big male blue claws
Pick up fresh corn at the farm stand on the way home

Home by 9am and enjoy the day

BBQ started at 3pm with steamer pot in center

Fish soaked in lemon and beer mix and seasoned, wrapped in foil and set on the grill off to the side
Corn buttered, salted, wrapped in foil on edge of grill
Crabs and clams in the steamer
Enjoy a frosty
Call the family to the patio
Enjoy the feast
Enjoy the family

I also like many other things, but not nearly as much...

Sorry if this is a hijack, but anybody can play this one . . .

So you're on Death Row, and you get to plan your last meal. Say five courses and three drinks. Water is a freebee. Max budget of $200. So Kim Jong Il type budget no. High end expense account yes.

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

I like your list Rog, but that there is just code for bad Mexican food . . . Ducking . . .

I like the authentic stuff, but unfortunately to go to any "Mexican" restaurant up in this area of the country, most of the menu is the watered down version of this cuisine. Or if you want to put an optimistic spin on it, it's Mexican inspired food....

There are some better places than others. But the little family run stands that I hear of in border states simply don't exist here. I'm stuck with what I've got, but at least I'm not going to pretend it's the real deal.... ;)

It also seems like the further north you go in New England, the more the standards change. If I ordered a proper Italian Sub (hoagie, grinder, hero, what ever you call it in your neck of the woods) around here, It is stuffed with salami, mortadella, provolone, ham, chopped veggies (pickles, tomatoes, onions), salt, pepper, and oil.
If say for instance you go to most places in Maine and order an Italian, you get ham and american cheese with green peppers, chopped iceberg lettuce, and black olives sprinkled in.

A proper Italian hoagie has prosciutto* or capicola* - - never ham**!

Signed,
100% Italian Kid
Born and raised in Philly

*If you heard these words, you probably heard them as "brazhut" and "gabagool"

**I know ham is a cured pork product, as are prosciutto and capicola, but ham is just wrong.

Re: Your Favorite Food(s)?

OK...I must come clean...most of you are not aware that the purpose in posting the original question was actually the fact-gathering aspect of a covert operation I have conducted. And I must say, lots of great menu selections have been identified and targeted for the next phase of my operation.

Now, I know you can tell from my PI, I'm located in Florida's panhandle. If you happened to glance at my other "Biloxi" post, you'll know that I'm headed that way this weekend; leaving tomorrow. Now for the execution phase of the operation:

jingrub, you're the first victim. On my way to Biloxi, I'm going to make a slight detour off I-10 for a visit with you. I would like to have a good ole southern meal and you're the long straw!

Incoop, you're next. After the game, I'm headed your way. I'll be wanting the porterhouse (rare baby!), brussel sprouts, blackberry cobbler...and make sure you're well stocked in the Johnny (w/ Sprite for me, please)

From there it's East to TN where I'll take a break from the "corotid killers" for some of Southkogs lighter fare...whatever you choose will be welcomed!

Robert Graham I haven't overlooked you! You'll be on the last leg of my venture. I'll be felling really heathy, I'm sure, after my meal with Southkogs, so make it something to "stick with me" for the trip back home (I'm figuring 10 hrs or so?).

As for the rest of you, you'll be included in my next operation if you'll complete your PI with your location so I can plan the route!

CheapboatKev...you thought I forgot you, didn't you? WRONG! You'll need to whip up some of your ribs and deliver them to Fireman431's place on June 9th...please be there by noon as I like to eat a bit before I jump headfirst into the rum!

How did I do?:D

You were doing great; until you asked me to adulterate that intoxicating ambrosia with sprite. Phillistine. Oh well. I'll be over it by the time you arrive.:p
