Re: Your Favorite Fish

For me there is nothing better than a big bull Red Drum from the beach. Talk about drag screamin, tackle busters, with an attitude. Next to that it's tuna chunkin. Tuna’s got to be pound for pound one of the hardest pulling fish there is.

As for freshwater, I thought that stuff was only used to rinse your equipment off when you’re done fishin?

For catching I have to say a big redfish. For eating there's nothing better than a fresh caught speckled trout fried in a beer batter by LF.

1. Steelhead (in rivers)
2.Walleye
3.Carp(bow&arrow)
4.Big bluegills on flyrod in spring.
5.Smallmouth bass
6.Any big fish
7.Anything that bites(hate to get skunked)

I could tolerate the loss of the first 5 above if I lived near the ocean. For drag screaming action and variety the ocean is where it's at.

Living in Texas, we don't get to fish for the salmon and musky, and I know the bass is king in Texas, but
what gets my blood going are the cats. Hooking a big flat head or a big channel cat is the greatest for me.

I like to go after bass and northern pike. i gotta agree there is nothing like a musky, but i just dont have the patience to wait for hundreds of casts before getting a strike. bass and northern put up a great fight and you get bit alot more often. as far as eating i love the northerns the best. soak the big ones in buttermilk over night and there is no more fishy taste. then all you have to deal with is the y bones. I know theres a couple ways to fillet them out. but no matter what method i use i always seem to waste to much meat. once cooked they pull out pretty easy any away.

Howdy FshKpr..forget the filleting..I make patties out of them..

Hand grind them once or kick blender on for a couple of seconds..

Crush some crackers up,mix in some onions or what ever your hankering is and roll into patties..The Grinding eliminates all y-bones..

Its makes for a great breakfast with some eggs and home fries added in..

Re: Your Favorite Fish

My favorite fish has to be the one I have dangling off my hook. But my best fight so far was the time I brought up a 25 and 30 pound Amberjack on the same line, now thats a fight.

Re: Your Favorite Fish

Well here goes, my first picture posting attempt.

My favourite is called a Tiger Fish and is found mainly in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and selected areas of South Africa. The picture is taken on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe and this specimen is rather small weighing in at just under 5# they get substantially bigger. Went fishing in winter, the worst time, yeah I know i've short sleeves but a winters day on Lake Kariba is a nice 25C / 77F.

The big attraction is a "tarpon like" fight with power runs that strip line big time. They are however a difficult fish to catch as they are attributed with "intelligence" and have a very bony mouth with a great set of dentures, it is very difficult to set a hook and keep it set. You will be lucky to boat 4 out of every 10 you hook. They will regulary wrap your line around submerged tree trunks and break you off. Let the line loose tension for 1 second and they're off the hook.

The locals eat them but much to bony for me.

Re: Your Favorite Fish

I would have to say my favorite fish so far would be King Salmon. Last year I took my dad Charter Fishing for father’s day out of Port Washington WI (lake Michigan) Between him and I, we caught over 100 lbs of fish. The one that gave me the most fight was a 25 lb King Salmon. That was the best fishing trip ever.

Nathan, Thats the biggest Crappy Ive ever seen, of coarse, here in Oregon, they do not get that much of a growth cycle.

Hey, It was great talking to ya Last night, Hope I was of some help. Call again anytime.

I mainly fish for Largemouth Bass, Our state record is somewhere around 13#s. I feel real fortunate if i catch one in the 4-6# range.

My favorite fish to persue would be the steelhead trout, Although I rarly fish for them, as it is so seasonal, that I almost never get a chance to get away when they are in the rivers.

Re: Your Favorite Fish

I would say catching a smallmouth on a fly rod is about one of the best fights you can ask for.
I have caught some large rainbows and browns, but I think pound for pound..smallmouth
