nice fish,,PFB..!! what did they weigh..??

in the spring,, there are reports from TRAP pond in the slower part of the state,, that 2 lbers are common..

no ,, i'm just razzin'... i'd have to hand it to the 'musky'.. cause i don't have experiance with a big one.. have caught a few small ones ,tho..and i'm jealous.. i wish we had 'em 'round here..!!

rockfish and STRIPER the same thing.. this area calls 'em 'rock'.. cause they love rock structure..nobody calls 'em stripers,,here..

thats a good idea,, usin' a rod on those 'blues'.. ( funny,, made me laugh ) they're EXTEMELY hard hittin' & hard fightin'.. we even use those 'boat poles' .. i call 'em 'clue sticks'.. those short stout fiberglass rod.. they'll put a whoopin' on ya.. that's for sure...

dang that looks like a real nice fish fry PFB.
don't get that big up north. the smaller ones
up here sure do taste good.
moved to CA when I was 19 and did some fishin
in saltwater. best day of fishin in my life
in San Pedro on the breakwall catching jack
mackeral. if you could cast a big spoon or
plug past the floating kelp, you caught a fish.
only time in my life i put my pole down to take
a break. guess there was a big school feeding
under the kelp that day. what a blast!
quite a bit smaller than our mate's i'm afraid.

PFB, i've seen some big black bream from the swamps before, but i don't know if they were bigger than those in your pics! that is an impressive catch! i haven't caught many crappie bigger than 12"... lol
well i did see some 4# crappie caught before.

crappie would be my favorite. yellow perch are as tasty to me too. but then i'm not too picky when it comes to eating seafood ;) i haven't caught/eaten walleye yet, but its just a matter of time... freshwater trout, bream, bass yummy

yeah, salmon are in their own category, but i only catch them in chunks - at grocery store

In the red corner the undisputed king of the north
(in my books anyway) the walleye. I have fished almost all the differnt species here in sask. and still find the walleye to test my knowledge and patience. never fished for any of the bass species but think it would be a blast! rainbows are real fighters too! Where i live i have landed some 10lb plus eye's in the local river system, but the water is polluted so i stick to the natural lakes when going for fish for the table.

Walleyhunter
You guys got some major walleye fishing
lakes. Wish we had some of them closer to
Southern Alberta. I did get a chance to fish
Lake Diefenbaker last summer. I want to go
back and get me some more eyes.

Re: Your Favorite Fish

NOSLEEP
I have not been to Diefenbaker but i understand that there are some monster fish there. I'm thinking of trying it out this summer. Most of the lakes that i fish are northern lakes with tonnes of structure, and hard to access. I find these lakes to have more fish than lakes with nice boat launches! they may be a chore to get too but the rewards are often great. I understand that fishing in Alberta is kind of poor, talked to a group of fisherman that were fishing at Cowan lake this winter. they came from Vegreville to fish for jumbo perch.

Re: Your Favorite Fish

Walleyehntr
It is true, It can be tough fishing out this way.
Problem is not enough water especially in
Southern Alberta. I travel in all directions
for about 1&1/2 to 2 hrs to get to good fishing
lakes, but they are out there, you just have to
drive to get to them. The Bow river passes right
by my house, you have to get out of town though
to get away from all the fly fisherman that
inhabit the river bank. To many fisherman not
enough water. Saskatchewan thats a good place to
go for a good fish!

Re: Your Favorite Fish

Crab Bait 1 1/4# to 2# the majority of them were just under 2# and there were 4 that were 2# fish. I have also caught bluegills the same size in the river but this was the most big fish at one time and all were in the space of about 3 hours. I am gonna head to the same spot at the same time this year. I think I am prouder to show these pics than I ever was of any 10+# bass or 40+ catfish I have ever caught because the whole family was there and helped catch these fish.

Re: Your Favorite Fish

I would have to say salmon is my favorite, especialy the white ones. The oil content is more than the pinks and the really BBQ great.
I fish w/a 101/2 ft mooching rod and reel(big flyreel)I just love to hear that sound when they rip off the line. Seals are real fond of salmon also, my partner (fed)lost 2 to the seals on Tuesday.
I was going to post a picture I guess I don't know how to copy it over to the post. I did get copied to Word 97 but the picture will not copy here. Am I missing something simple?
Gary

Salmon

What else is there?

Sockeye has to be my favorite to eat, so red and oily. Fantastic on the barbeque.

Coho and Chinook are plenty good too.

Chum and pink are fun to catch but not so much to eat, IMHO. Those chums sure are fighters though.

Have a friend stocked his pond with some hybrid bluegills, They get up to 5 pounds! Caught some around 2-3 pounds. Freakish looking they are so big and fat, Had an overhang on their forehead. But my favorite is hooking into a 7 foot tarpon about 3 feet in front of me on the jetties. It came straight up out of the water and caused quite a scene. People screaming , kids running. Had him for about an hour till he broke me off. Jumped a lot. Beautiful! Hooked six last summer. They are starting to show up now. Cant wait.

Re: Your Favorite Fish

Living next to lake Ontario,we have a choice of steelhead over 24",plenty of salmon, lakers and very big carp(30"+).Those are my favorite fighting fish.I love catching stripers and blues off Cape Cod,but the wildest fight I ever experienced was with a huge Halibut off Los Angeles. It took forever to get him into the boat, but once in the boat, the fight really started. That flopping and slapping floormat is an experience I will not soon forget.
