Year and Oil Ratio Please

I have a 15 HP Johnson Model J15ECDE Serial E6172822 motor that a friend bought used. It says on the side to use 100:1 oil mixture. Can this be right? I've never heard of oil mixture less than 50:1. He tried 50:1 and said it smoked too much. He is currently using 80:1. Anything you can tell me about this particular motor would be helpful. 50:1 is what you want, 100:1 was revised by omc

Better oil seems to me to smoke less.

In agreement with Paul Moir, I've found the Johnson XD30 oil to smoke less than the Wally World stuff. I have not done any scientific tests to support this observation nor am I posting this to start another oil thread.
