Yami 2-stroke vs. Mercury 2-stroke

Are there any real differences in the Yami and Merc 2-strokes (specifically the 90hp). I was told Yami parts were more expensive is this true and will i really have to worry about that? Performance the same?

The Yamaha 90 is far, far superior to the Merc 90, though the Merc has more grunt.

Yes it is true that Yamaha parts are more expensive. I use to have a Merc and now i own a yamaha. When i had to buy the impeler for the merc, it was $14 and $28 for the yamaha, and so on with different parts.

The Merc 90 is infamous for rough idle and hesitation on tip-in.

The Yamaha 90 is famous for not having any unhappy users.

For the most part I would say that the Yamaha parts are very reasonable. They also stock almost every part down to the smallest clip or bolt or hose.

Yamahas build quality is far superior, take the hood off and it is a simple and clean design, as for reliability it is just unbelievable.
