yamaha trim unit

trim unit on Yamaha f 100 works fine when the unit is taken off the motor/bracket and hooked up to a battery. When installed back on the bracket/motor it will not lift the motor or do anything. Where do I need to start?

Back off the relief screw and retighten. Maybe it's not seating tightly
