Yamaha or Johnson

I am looking at used motors I have found a 1998 115 Yamaha, and a 2001 Johnson 130. Which is the better motor. They are the same price. It is going on a 17 deep vee.

Look at the previous owner's service records. Look at the condition of skeg and prop. Find out the engine hours. The better one wins.

If either was used in salt water, that's a deal breaker.
