yamaha lower end

I have a 1985 8hp yamaha that needs a water pump. I pulled the 4 bolts to drop the lower end, but it only drops about an inch. How do I get the lower end to drop all the way out?

just a guess, you might have to take the shift rod linkage bolt out.

if you pull the shift shaft out of the gearcase,or far enough to disengage the cam, it requires prop shaft removal to reinsert the shaft.
thats why service manuals are so nice.
