I have the opportunity to buy a Yamaha 80 hp 2-stroke that has no oil injection, you must pre mix oil and gas. The seller says the sticky foil sticker with model info is gone. He thinks the engine is a 2002 "commercial" engine.
The motor is several states away, so i can't examine it until i get there to buy it.
Does anyone know of such an engine? When did Yamaha make 80 hp engines with just pre mix?
Thanks

No. C means cost effective. As in cheaper.

See if the power head has the optional serial numbers on it. What are they?

I'll check for numbers when I get there on Saturday. Any idea when Yamaha last made a 2 stroke 80 hp engine?

In what country are you and/or the motor located?

Yamaha USA offered a C80TLRV in 1997 only.

Other countries around the world could have been offered a 80 HP two stroke without oil injection.

I'm in USA. I guess I won't learn anything more about this motor until I get to Florida and see it in person. If there are other numbers on it, I'll run them to see what info they give me.

Well, I drove 8 hrs away and bought the 80 hp Yamaha 2stroke.
It was in great condition, compression on all 3 cylinders were the same, and, i happened to meet the original owner, who wandered into the shop while I was there.
He bought the engine new in '98, but couldnt remember if it was a left over 97 or a new 98. From my research, it must be a 97.
Anyway, the dealer i got it from put in a new water pump impeller, new lower unit fluid and new plugs and fuel filter.
It started and ran great, so it went into my truck and home it went!
