yamaha 55hp struggles to plane teal 18ft

i have 18ft teal with a yamaha 55hp yr 1983. boat struggles to plane, engine will fully rev but takes a long time to get on the plane. engine has a 13 pitch prop at the moment. any ideas to solve this problem would be appreciated.

sounds like spun hub on prop

thanks justintime, will check this weekend, will let u know if your suggestion was right. if not problem do u think a higher pitch prop may be required, to give extra torque.

If the hub was spun it wouldn't get on plane. A smaller pitch is more likely your solution.

I reckon your pitch is too low which is pretty obvious if your engine is easily taking full revs, you would need to go up to about 15" pitch assuming there is no hub slippage and that does not happen very often.

I am with Ray. Trying to plane with an overpitch is like climbing mountains in overdrive while towing at capacity.

An 18' boat is a BIG load for a 55HP. Lots and lots of wetted surface and drag.
