Yamaha 250hp OX66 Twin Switch, Synch Question

Twin 1999 OX66's on Scarab 30. Neither engine will power up past about 1700rpm. Both engines have had a major tune and will spin up when they are not under load (idle or test prop). Had 2 sets of mechanics go through the engines and all of the usual stuff checks out (compression, fuel pressure idle & at speed, spark (plugs, boots, Stator voltage etc.)

When the engines are decoupled (ie plug in 2 harnesses at the engine) the port powers up but stbd does not. Should be relatively straight forward...not...:
- fuel starvation - pressure checked and injectors cleaned
- spark not advancing to bring on other 2 cylinders - CDI fault
- CDI intentionally not bringing 2 cyl up - sensor or CDI fault
- other????
Both mechanics are stumped and have said that the only next step is to swap the CDI's and start chasing wiring (They said that I may as well do this myself)

Questions:
1) is there a way to isolate the synch feature/module in the key switch so it acts like 2 singles (disconnect synch? unplug the engine harness???) so that I can test engines separately without buying a single key switch / harness that I will never use again. Want to make sure that I don't blow up anything by trying to run the dual switch with only 1 engine attached

2) is there a way to test the codes / outputs from the engine into the synch module to see what fault the stbd engine is throwing to activate the safe mode? Any other info on how the synch module works, wiring diag etc.

3) any other suggestions on the stb engine? Next steps will be:
a) look for obvious corrosion on the CDI grounds and plugs (lookes real clean at first glance)
b) swap CDI from port to stbd. if problem follows CDI then bad CDI, if not then bad input into CDI
c) chase sensor inputs into CDI (thermo, oil etc.)
d) ????? suggestions ????

Thanks in advance. Would dearly love to salvage some of the season

Help me out guys, have lost 2/3 of the season, would really like to get out on the water before the snow falls

Re: Anyone???

I would think a Yamaha service place that have the proper training would know how to check everything, so my guess is you did not take it to one of them.

You can try other forums and see if you can find someone that works on these twin setups often, but sounds like one motor has a problem and the sync is holding the other down. Good luck as I have not seen Rodbolt post anywhere lately if you were looking for him

Actually took it to 2 authorized yamaha mechanics and neither could figure it out. Next step was to start shotgunning parts and going through wiring harness and cleaning connection.

Re: Anyone???

At least get a Yamaha service manual and start troubleshooting before throwing parts at it or find a shop with a master Yamaha tech with all the papers and/or hope Rod comes back

Umm if you look at my questions that is exactly what I am doing. the questions are not covered in the service manual and the only ones I could find for the 704 control don't have the wiring diagrams for the key switch (both skipped the last 4 pages for some reason)

Anyone have the full 704 dual control install guide or service manual???
