I bought a bassboat with a Evinrude V4 110 VRO, but the model # tag tells me it's a 1977 85 HP. model 85799S Is there ANY other way to find serial # and model # ??? I think the 110 vro was only made from 1986 to 1989... the boat is a 1977 hydra sport. Was the tag from original engine/tilt trim mount ?

Re: Wrong model # tag

There should a circular plug on the powerhead with a number stamped into it, if the motor is original that plate and SN on the transom clamps should match.

Sounds like someone switched cowls or put 5.0L on the 4 cylinder Mustang :D

If the numbers match then you have a 77 85 hp motor. Also, you'd have a VRO tank or something blocked off for the VRO if it were gonzo. Post a few pics, we's love pics!

I'm gonna go with the 77 85hp, the old school powerpack on the back, somebody swapped cowls, sorry man if you bought it from the seller with the info it was an 86 110. Everything matches but the cowl, it's the only "difference".

Re: Wrong model # tag

in most places this is called fraud.id be a little put out with the seller if he sold it to me as a 110 and i got a 85.25hp difference!not saying i would of been snookered as i always bring a book or 2 with numbers etc just for those special occasions.personally i think the 85 is a better motor anyways and will use a little less fuel to boot.BK you do know that on the evinrude assembly line those that were rejected were rebadged as johnsons dont you?lol.

Re: Wrong model # tag

Not a prop/rpm guy, no clue on that stuff. Well for $200 you can't complain, if it were $2500 or something then it would be an issue.

Cougar, I thought it was the other way around :D

Re: Wrong model # tag

I have a 75 115 Evinrude, your motors bigger brother lol. I now run a 17 pitch 3 blade aluminum prop. I had a 19 but had about 22% prop slip and went about 40 mph on a 19ft Reniell T-1900. Now im running about 43 around 5700 rpms. Max range on our motors is 4500 to 5500, but alot of the experts on here advised to shoot for 5700 do to langing the motor at 5500. Hope that answered your last question!

Re: Wrong model # tag

yeah it's an 85hp, someone took the courtesy of finding a cowl for a 115 and painting the rest of the motor to match. Good thing is you probably weren't the guy that originally got scammed on the deal
