OH yeah, You're Lookin LOTS better now!!!!

Like I SAID, Those are the mixing ratios that are recommended from the US Compostites site, The people That manufactured your resin. You can PLAY with the mixture all you want. I DON"T recommend going to LOW on the MEKP or TO HIGH but a LITTLE tweaking can help you due to temperature or other variables. I was NOT talking about a 1.5% ratio. And to the best of my knowledge, and I Could be wrong, and I have been before, not all resins are created equal, and the mixing ratios have been known to be different for each. You kinda have to play with it to get it the way YOU want it.

I think when I lay up the for the deck, I'll increase the catalyst just a bit more to get a little quicker reaction time.

Getting close - I'm getting excited! I'll have this piece put in today and then I'll be ready to fill in with PB hopefully tonight.

I used a roller that is made for stain and that worked really well. I probably should have went back over it with the metal roller from USC (I forget the name) to knock some of the bubbles out, but I'm feeling a lot better about laying up the boat.

I wasn't referring to the USC ratio recommendations, but to what YD posted as a 1.5% mix, it's off quit a bit.

USC doesn't make any resin or gel coat, they buy it from others that do and then repackage it with their label, there are only a few actual manufacturers of resin, and even fewer for gel coat. The chemistry does have a few differences from one brand to another, but for the most it follows the same basic rules of catalyzation. Typically from around .9 % on the low end to 2.5% on the high end, gel coat is 1.25 to 3% staying in the middle of that range if possible is the best plan.

That is GOOD to know!! I did NOT realize that. So.... Who are the Major MFG's of the resin? I ask, because recently I have been noticing a few PROBLEMS with USC resin and their Catalyst not SETTING properly. Flamron is the second person I have worked with here on the forum that has had issues.

Re: Wrapping plywood with fiberglass

Those are not the correct figures for 1.5%

Here is a chart, two actually.

http://www.ccponline.com/tds.asp?id=283

CATALYST CHART

RESIN

VOLUME ?% 1% 1.5%
8 oz. 2 cc 3 cc 4 cc
1 pint 4 cc 5 cc 7 cc
1 quart 7 cc 10 cc 14 cc
#10 can 23 cc 30 cc 45 cc
1 gallon 28 cc 37 cc 56 cc
5 gallon 140 cc 185 cc 280 cc

Gelcoats

VOLUME 1.25% 2% 1.75% 2%
8 oz. 4 cc 4 cc 5 cc 6 cc
1 pint 7 cc 8 cc 10 cc 11 cc
1 quart 14 cc 16 cc 19 cc 22 cc
#10 can 43 cc 52 cc 61 cc 66 cc
1 gallon 53 cc 63 cc 75 cc 86 cc
5 gallon 263 cc 315 cc 373 cc 426 cc

Please excuse the spacing on the amount to add, it won't allow me to make the changes needed, I can edit it to look right, but when posted it doesn't line up correctly.

This Is correct and I stand Corrected !!

5 cc / pt is NOT 1.5 % ..

Thank you for your kind correction Ondarvr :) ..

YD.
