I like that idea lakelover. I need to spray a trailer before the spring. I think the electric would be a good option for me. I may go ahead and get one and try it, but I wont be spraying marine paint. I need it to do the trailer. (probably rusto farm and epuipment paint).

I would probably do trailers too, didn't think of that, but have one in urgent need of work and one that needs to be done, but not right away. In the meantime, I asked my brother about his Wagner sprayer, and consistent with all the reviews & comments I've seen, he said it's only good for stain & thin stuff.

My sprayer is similar to that one- Different brand, but same idea. That actually looks like a knockoff of mine! Might be worth a shot- Can't go wrong on the price :)

I used mine with Rust-O-Leum to prime & paint the trailer, and it did an EXCELLENT job. I also used it to shoot Supermarine Revolution topside paint on the boat, and it did a great job of that, too... This is how my deck ended up-

The thing that you have to watch out for is they do NOT like thick paints... I had to thin the enamel down a bit to get it to spray correctly, but it did work well. You just have to make sure that you don't thin it more than the manufacturer recommends.

Looks real nice, I think I'll look into these some more. It might be the compromise I'm looking for in price/quality. I was just in Lowe's for something else and happened to walk by their paint sprayers. I had to laugh, I saw one that was labeled a "home improvement" level sprayer, and under that it said "(1-2 projects per year)". Almost like they're admitting it's a piece of junk right on the box.

So has anyone had experience with a particular brand of turbine sprayer? Any recommendations? Someone has an Apollo 800 locally for $100, but it sounds too good to be true. It's an $800 machine.

On a side note but very much related to this thread. I bought the HVLP gun from Harbor Freight to stain some small areas of my deck this summer. Specifically the area's where the railings vertical members meet the cap. There are just a lot of nooks and crannies and that I wasn't quite patient enough to get with the brush.

I will be using the 6 gallon pancake compressor that I listed earlier. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm guessing it won't be that bad because it's not large areas, so the volume of stain I will be putting through the gun will be pretty small.

I expect a lot of starting and stopping of the compressor but If I run at 50-60 psi with my 150 psi unit I should be able to spray 50% of the time. This is based on the gun requiring 6cfm and the compressor putting out 3.5cfm at 40psi. I didn't do the math but I'm hoping to get 2.8-3cfm out of the compressor at 60psi.

Id love one of those fujis in the shop.. ;) ..

But I think it would be an investment for someone to make money off of...not a one time thing.

Rent a compressor is a good option :) .

I agree. But it doesn't help my conundrum with the wife. I love quality tools She don't get it...:D

At $50/day for a minimum of 3 or 4 days and it almost seems like a better investment would be to buy one of those HF or similar turbine deals, then still have it for other small projects.

Did you ever notice how when you're researching almost any product, the reviews are all over the place? I mean the ratings often range from 1-5 stars, so you really have to read through all of them to filter out the stuff irrelavent to your situation, those who mis-apply the product etc. You have to look for overall trends in complaints or problems mentioned. The vast amount of info available online is great though.

I guess your right lakelover..

I was thinking of just one day :)

BTW.. I have used a smaller compressor hooked into a remote tank for longer air time.. Possibility ?

Ever thought of looking for a used compressor? My old Wayne Was used in a bottling company. Bought it for 50 bucks, dropped on a harbor freight motor The old one was 3 phase and been using it for years.
