Re: Worst fisherman on the planet

.....an easier way to catch a fish than the river!!

I am not trying to be critical of make fun of you, but have you considered what you might be doing that is intrinsically wrong? Do other anglers catch Salmon during the times you are fishing? Salmon are both spawn and temperature controlled, but they will be out of their comfort zone temp wise if they are in the mood to feed on baitfish.

I would conclude that the fish are not where you are fishing.

The other thing that crosses my mind is your technique could be faulty. I fished with a guy who put gobbs of night crawlers on a spinner rig with huge tandem hooks. I think he thought that more was better, like a big ball of night crawlers was going to suck fish in to his lure like a tractor beam on star trek. He DID get robbed by a lot of perch, but NO trout hits. I again am not making fun of him or you, but if he just plain didn't know, he wouldn't know- and neither may you. Something's got to be wrong because if there are fish (a) and if you are using the right technique (b) you should be able to catch fish even "by mistake" even if you are a "bad" fisherman.

Re: Worst fisherman on the planet

I have no clue about salmon fishing but the best thing I could have done for walleye, pike and perch was to pick one day every month from the start of the season until the lakes froze over to fish from 6am until 10pm. I already had about 3 or 4 techniques I knew would catch fish and I would try them all throughout the day. When I was catching I was keeping mental notes on the time of day, what the weather was like and the time in the season. It gave me a pretty good indication of water depths and techniques to use at different times and has seemed to work for me.

Fishing is a challenge and requires some research. Otherwise it'd just be catching.

try different bait...2 sticks of atlas 40% gel should do it.:D

a pond, nightcrawlers, and a bobber. bluegills and small cats are a given.

if you do go the safeway route, have the guy behind the seafood counter throw them to you. then when you are asked you can honestly say "yes, i caught these fish.

bad fisherman, maybe. liar? nope!

I disagree with your opinion as the worst. You have to one of the best. It's called "fishing" not "catching." Enjoy all the aspects that go along with the opportunity.

Anyone who goes "catching" will be disappointed more often than satisfied. Anyone who goes "fishing" will be happy all the time, unless your vessel lets you down.

YEAH! Now we're fishing with LIVE bait. That "improved" M80 will render fish no matter what IF there's some in the water. You are fishing in the water right???

Sorry... I had to say it. Try spraying WD40 on your hands before handling the bait. Maybe you are scaring them away with human scent. ;)

You've got me laughing at myself!

By these definitions, (not that there is anything wrong with them) I am much more a "catcher" than a fisherman. I enjoy the process of successful catching so much that I am usually much happier after an unsuccessful day of catching than I ever am to simply be fishing. If I am bored or tired catching, I gun to the middle of the lake, suspend the anchor about 30 feet down, and take a nap!

But I lean a little type "A" and can be competitive even if it is against myself. So going "catching" fits me- always learning, always powered up, even if the fishing is bad. Sometimes a bad fishing day motivates me. Sometimes if the fishing gets consistently bad, it motivates me to switch species! Uncooperative walleyes made a salmon chaser out of me last fall, and a smallmouth angler last month in New York.

I love figuring out how to get to the "catching" but I have enjoyed being on the water with those for whom merely fishing is good enough. But I was busy trying to get to the catching and enjoying myself too.

The fact is that fishing should be fun- so do it however it makes you have fun!

Where in the lowerr mainland are you? I fishh the Fraser River app once a week, usaully on the weekends or when I take time off work.So far this year I have caught and released 22 Sockey and and kept a nice 15lb spring. The pinks are starting to show at the mouth and by next weekend should be in the upper fraser pretty thick.I am uasaully at Grassy bar, bottom bounceing. This year may be different with all the different closures. The pinks usaully ,I play with are on a red and white spoon ,thrown from a trout rod.Well if you want ,send me a reply and maybe we can hook up and play some salmon .

Take everybody's suggestion, weed out the crazy ones and go back fishing. Once you break the jinx, all will be OK. Have you ever heard of a fish farm? LOL
