wood handle preservative question

What do you recommend using to protect the wood handles on this (photo) new to me, lightly used wheelbarrow? I'm thinking some kind of oil w cleaner. I'm only looking for it to be a worker up at camp, not pretty.

I thickly brush on a coat of boiled linseed oil on my stuff approx once a year

What ever is left over from staining the deck works for me.

I have used linseed for years. Over the years they may darken but they won't rot. Same with shovels, rakes, etc. I still have some wood handled tools over 50 years old that I still use on a regular basis.
