wood decking

I am finally starting to work on my runabout, and have a few ideas running around in my head. The one I have questions on is has anybody ever done a wood strip deck? I will be replacing the plywood one and glassing it in like everyone says to, but nonskid paint, carpeting, or rhinoliner just don't appeal to me all that much. So I was thinking of laying some thin strips of wood over top of the new plywood and "caulking" them so it looks like the decks on old fishing boats or sailboats. Does this sound like a good idea? It should look salty as all get out if I do the console and gunwhales bright as well. I figure the ply underneath would be sealed anyways, so I could just use something like thompson's water seal on the strips so they still have some protection but don't lose the look and feel of wood like they might if varnished. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Teak.... ;) Teak's really the only way to go if you want it to last for a long time, but teak is expensive as all get out...

http://www.worldpanel.com/

Here's something else that might interest ya..
I saw this stuff recently at a boat show.. You'd swear up and down that it is teak, but it's not...

http://www.flexiteek.no/

Jason, it is done all the time, install your plywood deck, coat it with epoxy resin, then get your decking strips 1/4 inch thick teak, and staple them down with monel staples and resin, spacing the strips with nails every 12 16 inches depending on curve, then trowel on a coat of resin mixed with black graphite to fill in the spaces, (remove the nails first) then sand everything down fair and finish with resin with a sun block in it,,, this is a short version, get a west system manual to see the fine points....
