A lot of Mercs tend to stumble upon acceleration, if the carbs are set too lean, as most do not have accelerator pumps on the carbs. That is about as simple as it gets. You should have 6 mixture screws.

Will but than time in the shop, though if something simple would fix so could get fishing
Why mess with the warranty ? Let's see , the dealer has any bulletins issued for it , diagnostic equipment, familiarity with the brand , trained technicians and will put it in your " file " for any future related problems. Or I can go fishing , not really fix the problem and possibly void the warranty. Yep , let's go fishing !!!

If the Dealer can determine you were inside "Tinkering" it could indeed void the Warranty Completely.

The motor is a 2 cycle XR6, likely from 2001 or older. I doubt it is under warranty.

When the OP states " new " most people take that for face value . We don't go looking up model numbers to verify or check to see if it is NOS . ( New Old Stock ) . My definition of new apparently isn't the same as the OPs . Anyway at this point the OP should be posting in the Outboard Mercury sub forum ,not here .

Even if its NOS at a dealer, warranty begins when sold unless dealer/MFG policy's have changed over the years.

Some Clarity please: Replaced?
As in a New Powerhead?
A complete NOS Motor that was sitting in the corner of the Dealer's Warehouse?

Ahhhhh...it a dealer warranty as they dressed out the new powerhead. Just moved the problem from original to the new. If it a mechanical issue Merc or a reputable reman company will have to warranty it.
