I have a bay liner with a 125 force pesto outboard
I’ve already set the butterfly valves to the tower roller. And I just recently changed the trigger and changed wire by wire so I couldn’t get anything mixed up but now when I go to adjust the timing screw the mark doesn’t seem to move in any direction. I’ve also changed all my port gaskets. And the carb and bowl gaskets. I’ve been reading up on the infamous franks post and YouTube videos but can seem to get anywhere. I’ve already been on here with the same problem about a year or 2 and i ended up not having the time but am finally able to tackle it again.
My problem is the boat runs poorly and won’t stay on. Some times it dies normally and some times it pops kinda like a backfire and then dies. And I can’t adjust timing.
Any and all help is appreciated thanks for your time View attachment IMG_1854.mov

Post actual results of a compression test.
Sorry I forgot to mention that
#1-150psi
#2-145psi
#3- 145psi
#4-145psi
And I also rebuild the fuel pump
Also I noticed while I was changing the trigger one of the leads where it contacts the screws was partially broken which might have been my problem with the timing jumping around. I might try to fix it and they put the old one back since the “new” one is just a “test” used one

I see fuel spitting out of the carb(s) have you checked the reed valves if any are broken/missing and/or sealing properly?
Are the floats in the carbs set properly and/or closing off the fuel supply?

What’s a reed valve. Would it cause the backfire. The fuel drips out when it stalls and when it’s cranking. I have not checked the reed valves. Where are they located. And how would I check if they are good? The carbs them selves are good and clean besides the bottom carb top adjustment screw it looks like some one cranked it down and the tip is a tad bit deformed
And I adjust both floats to sit level if you turn the carb upside down. And I also replaced the little valve stem that the floats push on

Another thing that I don’t get is that if I spray starter fluid it will start alittle better but it has gas dripping out so I can’t figure out if it’s gas or spark. It’s obviously getting gas as it’s dripping out the carb but it starts better with start flui:unsure::unsure:

The reeds are behind the carbs. Remove the carbs and inspect the reeds.
A reed is like a clarinets reed that vibrates to make the noise.
They allow fuel in but block the fuel so it won't come out.
Damaged or missing reeds let fuel come back out the front and can make it backfire. A backfire can hurt the reeds and cause the port cover gaskets to blow out the edges causing it to miss and puke gas out the front of the carb.
Deformed needle: causes it to idle poorly.
Sounds like the motor has multiple problems: Bent needle, bad reeds, port cover gaskets bad.
Starting fluid shows the bad gaskets and sucking air someplace?????

I’ve changed all the port gaskets already. I’ve tried to find a replacement for the needle but no luck. It’s only slightly deformed. I will check the reeds tomorrow IMG_1004.jpeg
Check the flywheel key.
It seems to be intact when I changed the trigger

So I changed back to the old trigger after fixing the terminal and I still can’t adjust the timing at neutral it’s a tad bit to the left of tdc at wot it’s a like in between 28 and 30

I was also looking at the service manual and saw that there’s a magnet in the fly wheel for the trigger. All the threads for the puller stripped out so I had drilled and tapped new holes I didn’t hit any thing
and it seems like I didn’t hit the magnet.

Also have the magneto cable disconnected at the engine since it won’t start with it connected

I’ve also noticed that the idle mixture screw doesn’t seem to do anything no matter how I adjust it

This points to an issue within the carburetor.-----The " back firing " could be a lean sneeze.----A much mis-understood thing.

The magnetic-band is not even close to the 3 holes

Ya I’ve been asking around on Reddit and they tell me that my float needs to be adjust and that my trim is to high. But I can’t go lower since the motor is already on the ground and my trim doesnt hold any way lol.

As long as your Kill-circuit is grounded; the engine won't start
Ya I’m not sure where is it but I’m sure there’s a break somewhere because it won’t start with the magneto terminal on the engine side hooked up

So adjust my floats. And then figure out why I can’t adjust timing. Would it be a bad cdi box or coil
