Re: Wiring switch to starter solenoid etc.

Yeah, i was gonna do stuff like that when I get the boat in the garage and can start hooking stuff up. I still gotta figure out some plugs, quick disconnects or something. The switch and battery will be mounted in the boat, so I easily need to be able to "unplug" all the wires in order to remove the outboard from the boat. Some kinda easy disconnect for the 4-14 gauge wires and the 2-4 gauge battery cables. Any ideas??
I would recommend some heat shrink tubing over the exterior wires to protect and tidy and you are good to go!

Garden tractor battery will crank it over just fine.

on removing the motor:

I have two four gauge wires coming from the motor -- one to the solenoid, and one to the neg post of the battery. It's pretty easy to pull the motor as there is a wing nut disconnect at the battery, and a nut on the solenoid post at the transom. I normally just remove the motor for storage in the Fall, so removing the two wires isn't a problem -- could probably make it a little more convenient by using a wing nut at the solenoid post (and really not a big deal to just disconnect at the motor, for that matter). You probably have something similar for the two four gauge wires, and could add a couple of quick disconnect joints for the two smaller wires, maybe with a piece of plastic tube you can slide over the connectors. If you change your mind and mount the starter on the transom rather than the motor, I think you would be left with just the two four gauge wires, but it doesn't seem to make a tremendous difference in rigging for fairly convenient removal of the outboard (nice looking motor, by the way. looks like you might have done some restoration.) Somebody should point out that we could have just used a factory harness with the plug disconnect, but no fun in that, right? :)
