ok, I think i have somewhat of a idea, Im gonna try and track down the wires today I got a wire detector, its harbor freight so who knows how it works, Im also trying to find the main battery wire, would it go into the remote controls first? and then into the console? Im trying to wire a battery selector switch so I have 1 battery that runs all the ignition and engine and one that just runs accessories. But i assume the main power would go to something first before it goes to the ignition right? bc as of now the red wire coming from the controls is directly into the key switch and then the purple from the key switch i assume is key on 12 volt which is wired to gauges. So would the main power from the battery go directly into the console or would it go directly to the control box 1st? or is that red wire going to the ignition directly from the battery? any ideas? thoughts?
um...I don't wanna lead you wrong. I cleaned up my pontoon's wiring but I didn't re-wire it.........
My controls don't need a choke, and are separate from my key switch. And my tach has factory wiring, there is no separate 3wire plug as some older boats might have in their control box..Mine is factory and hasn't been messed with. Once someone does what appears to have been done with yours, all bets are off and it can be...interesting...
This being said....
Positive power gets branched off from the battery, thicker gauge wires to solenoids, starters....smaller gauge to key switch, and then to activate solenoids and relays, hot wired items ( bilge pump)...it's not like it necessarily goes here first and then there...
somewhere there is a red (hot) wire going to the key switch ....here is a pic of mine with the fuse from the battery into the harness....I think it goes to my key switch.....it also might branch off...
Anyway...if it was my boat....because of the mess ....I would get my multi-meter and see exactly what each terminal on the key switch shows when off, on, and start...Especially find out which termina/s show 12v with key on as you need a 12v, key on source for the instruments....also, write the color of the harness wire connected to that terminal...
if your motor starts, stops ok, obviously it's wired right at the key switch for those functions......confirm the tach wire (purple we think), confirm instrument power terminal...try to get correct color wire from the harness to key switch....
I run two batteries but i don't know specifically how to separate and use one battery for just accessories....how would you charge it?...adds to wiring headache it would seem....
My setup measures battery charge and selects engine charging to the battery that needs it, but I can select #1, #2, or both to use, but
I can't separate one battery for one particular job....
