Wiring Harness Question on 1978 Merc.500

What year motors before and after 1978 on my 500 are the Internal and External wiring harnesses the same? All the small wires in both Harnesses are just crumbling and if I can't find one for a 78 what other years are the same?

Save yourself alot of time and grief and get a new one from CDI electronics all the used ones are about like the one you have.
