Re: Winterizing question
I would run the engine on the muffs to normal temp range fog the carb/throttle body for a few minutes or till you see it lightly smoke. then turn off. Change the oil and filter while it is warm. Add a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer in place of one quart of oil. If you have a Alpha 1 do the maintenance to the out drive and install a new impeller in the sea pump. If you have a bravo 3 pull the sea pump off the engine and rebuild. They don't take long and it is cheap insurance. . Now remove all the drain plugs and let all the water out of the engine. Check to see if the power steering cooler has a drain plug and drain it. Replace all plugs. Next remove the big hose from the t-stat housing and pour in anti freeze until it comes out the housing, replace the hose and remove the others and fill them up with anti freeze. You will see some anti freeze come out the water intakes on the drive and some around the gimbal area. You have now filled the block and risers. I used the info from a u tube video by Eddie of the Long Island boaters club on winterizing. Watch it. It answers a lot of questions. And by the way I used 5 gallons of anti freeze. Also if you have a Bravo 3 do the maintenance to it last, clean the flame arrester, fill the tank, add stabil, check all hoses and belts. Wash, wax and kiss her good night.
