Winter mice are too much this cold winter in New Jersey.

Do they hate enough to move out of a house in January?
A few years back, mice invaded my neighbors barn and chewed up the wiring and the seat on his skid steer. Peppered the inside with cotton balls with peppermint oil. All disappeared in less than a month and never touched a single cotton ball.....normally they love cotton to make nests !

I dont doubt that the pesky critters dislike peppermint but after decades of having stuff chewed and shat on by mice revenge becomes a primary motivation , and with a couple of cats acting as double agents ........little bastards ,Ya know I reckon half the mice in my house get bought in as livies and wind up as body parts in the hall or , if they are fortunate enough to elude the cats they might hide and die to stink the place out or survive untill I trap their furry little arses.
But I do consider myself lucky .☺️....... my neibough has teenagers:D

Have lived in my home coming up on 5 years, never a mouse in the house or garage. I do put out outdoor poison stations during the warm months.

Many people have suffered the wrath of field mice that have chewed wires....... In a fashion I am lucky. I have a good garage, only park one vehicle outside (all the time) and the BEST secret weapon I have .......... BARN CATS!

I provide a small shelter with heat for the barn cats, we feed them off brand cat food and have been doing this for years...... I have been "gifted" dead mice and voles over the years. The cats also enjoy the shelter of a warm truck.

When the cats are not around they hang out in the dairy barn accross the road. I have watched cats eat alongside racoons, opossums, skunks and red foxes The blue jays and cow birds wait for the cats to be away and snatch a piece of cat food too.

I have seen people spend money on mouse repellants but cat food is my solution ;)

Late to the party
I used to use the victor traps and then discovered these on Amazon. By far the easiest to set just like squeezing a clothes pin. Hair trigger. We live in the woods and field mice can be an issue. These things never miss, a mouse steps on it he’s a goner. We’ve wiped them out to where we only get a few mice a year now. Granted they are plastic and I had one break after a few kills, but still worth the cost.

These are what we use.

We have two very similar ones .... we have never bought any tho , they both turned up inside the house .... still attached to the mouse . So Im thinkin that one of my cats has been burgling the neighbours house . And yes they do work very well.

I have never thought we need a box of shat and pee in the house let's get a cat. Not a fan we did have barn cats at the ranch but I will not have an animal in my home that can not be trained to go outside to go.
