It should,plus the drive should be R,MR,Alpha not MC1

It is a 1980 prealpha, does that matter,

I looked up the part numbers and they are different..

mine calls for #65545

what type of steering/power steering was in there .The MC1 ,R,MR,Alpha will all bolt up to your housing. What is the width of the rear motor mount thats on the motor(where the 2 bolts go thru)

I found the correct part on ebay, it came off a 1979 merc 260 350 v8. so i dont think i will have any issues.. it looks exactly like mine that is broken...
